So in that sense I suppose they're in a slightly different category. Slapping that E fellow four times smartly across the face has been a fantasy of mine for quite some time. Here's something from a recent digest of the Old 97's group on Yahoo - -- it's a paragraph from a breakdown of a solo set Rhett Miller did at Largo. It's news to me -- Bayard, do you know anything about this? BTW, Rhett's about to do a solo album with Jon Brion. I can't wait to hear that. >- Cynthia Mask: this is a Robyn Hitchcock song that Rhett is apparently >doing for a tribute album some time in the near future. The new Kinks-tribute album on Sub Pop is surprisingly good...you first look at the artist roster and think "Bleh," but almost every track on the disc is worthwhile. I just wish I could cut the last two tracks ("Come Dancing," "I Go to Sleep"), which don't fit conceptually in my opinion. It's an interesting song selection, too..."Sunny Afternoon," "Waterloo Sunset" and "Come Dancing" are the only major hits chosen. The bands are more interested in highlighting the overlooked nuggets. On the basis of the GITTSB Raw Records 7" release (1977), RH / SBs become eligible for the, ahem, Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in about a month. Now, apart from the question of whether an artist -- or that artist's fans - -- should or would ever desire such a fate (though that's a decent question, of course), does Robyn have a shot? I mean, even with Robyn's nearly unblemished record of inspiring mass-consumer apathy, his legend continues to grow among influential critics - -- as the press surrounding the UM re-release proved, it is quite fashionable to refer to RH / SBs as true "undiscovered" / "underappreciated" geniuses. part of me would be quite tickled to see a thoth in cleveland. does this make me quite mad? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Nov 2001 08:35:48 +0000 (GMT) From: Eclipse Subject: reap this time, it's true: george harrison, at 58. http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/nm/20011130/ts/people_harrison_dc_1.html - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Eclipse | eclipse@eclipse.best.vwh.net (clunky enough for you?)
