Theoretically, I would choose your death over the death of 500 though; let's say there is a missile that was impossible to disarm or stop in any other way, but there is a switch on it indicating two possible targets; a large building in a metropolitan area, or a home in the desert of which you were the only occupant. I would set it to hit you and be saddened, but relieved that only 1 person would die instead of 5000. What would you do? It probably makes you cringe to think that there are people out there like me who think their version of Alone Again Or is breathtaking, yet I don't really know anything else!! I keep buying new Bunnymen material and I've got to say, they never disappoint me. I was a huge fan in the 80's, but I think some of their new material is amoung their best. Especially some cuts from the new CD Also, ex-Tears for Fears Roland Orzabal has a new CD, but I've only heard a few tracks. One really sticks out. If your a Tears for Fears fan, you must seek out Bullets For Brains. It's such a great song!!!! For the first time in a while I've spent a lot of money (relatively speaking) on CDs. For me $45 are still not a small sum even though I've been working for 6 months now. Based on your various recommendations I got Stereolab's "Emperor Tomato Ketchup" (that was the only full-price CD at $15), "Bachelor No. 2" by Aimee Mann, "Smiley Smile/Wild Honey" by the Beach Boys (only $6!), the "Danelectro Remixes" by Yo La Tengo (only for completists!) and "Trout Mask Replica" by Captain Beefheart. The latter I'd never heard, only heard of. I've listened to it two times now, and I still don't know what I think of it. I guess that's the point :-) I like that Stereolab CD much better than "Cobra and Phases Group", but I doubt that I enjoy it as much as their live show. We'll see, it's too early to tell. Are their any others > worth picking up? I don't even know Priest=Aura. Starfish is probably their most commercial album, but I still like it. The others are hit and miss, so it might be a good idea to pick up a "Best Of" album if there is one. James Dignan opined: > well, their best CDs are Heyday and The Blurred Crusade. Sadly you picked > the two worst IMHO among your three (GAF and Starfish). I agree regarding GAF, but what's wrong with Starfish? It's The Church's Perspex Island ;-) I've also got their first (untitled) album on tape. IIRC they had a minor hit down under with "The Unguarded Moment", but for reasons unknown to me they got so sick of it that they refused to play it ever after. That album is quite different, but I've got a certain sentimental fondness for (of?) it. Drew wrote: > Heh -- maybe I should send you my Emperor Tomato Ketchup. I haven't been able to listen to his stuff since. I'm surprised to hear that. I've never once spoken to him, but I've been to four or five shows and he always seemed like a kind person. Self-infatuated I can see, but pompous I wouldn't have thought. Hmm. James also wrote: >> Here, there are *always* interesting discussions. His name was Nachshon Waxman. The late Pm Rabin ordered a commando operation to rescue him. in which all the kidenupers die, not before killing Waxman. A soldier and a commanding officer of the special unit got killed too. I couldn't stop thinking, that if Waxman was rescued even in the orice of another two casualties the media and public would consider the operation as successful. > I think killing is wrong too, but I think self-defense is not wrong. > And I think the killing of 5000 is worse than the killing of one. What is self defence? does it inclued revenge? since to the best of my knowledge this is the main drivev of the forthcoming US and allies attack. to bring them to justice if I qoute secretery of state. I don't remember qoutes from Bush's speach but it's preaty much of the same nature. how far goes self defence would you think the Iraqi people who have been under nearly a decade of genocide have the right to perform trroer attack like the 9.11 one as a self defence act? how about other cultures, states and persons who feel depressed, starved and used by us (lets say US and Israel but many other western countries) could they kill in self defense. my point is that two or even four wrongs don't make a right. and in the complicated situation the world faces now no killing should be justified whatsoever. and if I may this is not a mere moral statement I truly believe it to be also a practical one. war and killing wouldn't do good to anybody at this stage. all the best noe p.s. :-) > Theoretically, I would choose your death over the death of 500 though; > let's say there is a missile that was impossible to disarm or stop in any > other way, but there is a switch on it indicating two possible targets; a > large building in a metropolitan area, or a home in the desert of which > you were the only occupant.
