BUT... Then I listened to his album, Tunnel into Summer, which is very nice in a totally harmless way, and the three songs Robyn plays on are cool, BUT--there's a picture of Kim. Playing guitar, big mop o hair, ugly pants, all normal right, BUUUUT, his face--it's not just chiseled, it's ....bizarre. It looks like that old character that was on the cover of all the Iron Maiden albums. Like something from Poe. Gives me the creeps. Doesn't look like him at all--but it is. Oh yeah, the show? It was good. Looking forward to the next album. Specially Mr. Kennedy. Damn them, though for not playing either I got the Hots or DO the Chisel, both of which I requested on balloons thrown uup on stage with the song names written on them. And nobody mentioned that we went to a bar afterward, and the hipster DJ played a track from Eddie's vinyl. Until then, the only SBoys track I'd ever heard in a bar was Anglepoise lamp from the DIY sampler. My friend Nathan loved the show--he laughed out loud every time Kim pulled another trmolo out of his neck, but he was way impressed--I think I'll have won even when he treats me to see Dan Bern this Monday (after the Bill Moyers special). And you all were very cool, and I palmed off that awful Penn Jillette album on Bayard, introduced Melissa to Ray Hitchcock (who else beside fegs would read them?) in exchange for Chana Masala, and have a cool tape of the Fletchers show! Yea! OK, I was up all night writing and I'm gonna go pass out now. dave ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Mar 2001 18:46:42 -0500 From: Brian Cully Subject: Re: Brian...the pics link won't work for me [Cc: fegs, cuz I've seen a bunch of these, so I figured I'd let y'all know -bjc] Yeah, sorry about that. Buelahland, a hipster/slacker (but not quite so pretentious) bar/lounge/homework joint in the Laurelhurst neighborhood of Portland, has, I believe, Invisible Hits AND Underwater Moonlight on the jukebox. In fact, their jukebox beats both The Roxy and Rialto Pool Hall for Best Juke In Town. The feg tree for passing on show recordings is being revived, thanks to the continual efforts of Bayard and JH3 to make it all work. The question is, how many people want to participate in a "tree" for recordings, since MP3's will be available? Is it worth putting one together? So send your opinion/vote, back to me, since I've been the original collector of tree info. If we get enough people that want it -- then John H. will spend the next couple of months figuring out how to do it. If not, then we'll just assume everybody's ok downloading MP3's. jill jill@lightfallsdesign.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Mar 2001 22:35:20 -0800 From: "Russ Reynolds" Subject: RE: Raymond Hitchcock > http://www.cyber-nation.com/victory/quotations/authors/quotes_hitchcock_raym > ond.html > > Cool, respect is due to Raymond Hitchcock. Then again, I've been fortunate enough to meet you ;-) Ah! Eddie, Ed, Scott, Dave, Carissa, Mel, woj, and Bayard all together. You're killing me! Soft Boys CDR's of concerts actioned off so quickly, (guess that's why I shouldn't get digest) people seeing shows I only wish I was at, (and that's so I could meet some fegs on the east coast) merch isn't likely to come to Canada, (I wanted pins and cool t-shirts and cones) and the show at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto is sold out, (well - there were 4 tickets left when I went by the Horseshoe today to buy one for a last minute someone). I hope Caroline and Sean have tickets! And now there is a copy of a Raymond Hitchcock book that Melissa's read! And now "K" is back to "Kay" The world is moving too quickly ... Ohhhh, I can;-) They should do it at least once. During the final show of the tour maybe. RH is just -such- a sunshiny guy. It would be an immortal moment, one we could all giggle over(including RH) thruout our old age. (Maybe Rew can attempt to whomp Hitchcock off the stage with his guitar during it)(And have I tried to pass myself off as civilized? Hell, its Saturday, Im working and its getting ready to rain. Somedays are only worth the ruckus you can raise.) Ed wrote: >Before the gig, Melissa posited that Robyn tells so many stories >between >songs out of shyness, or as a defense mechanism so that he need not > >interact >with his audience. And yet, that night, when he asked "is Dubya here now or >is he >still in Texas?" and I replied "yeah, I saw him in the back bar," >Robyn >actually acknowledged this comment, remarking "He's in the back of >the >house? Well, he should be -- he's got super powers -- he'd need to >use >them >to get in here." Hmmm, I guess that showed us. Ive heckled Hitchcock for over a decade, and he has always seemed really fast on his verbal feet. There were some interchanges at Maxwells years and years ago--cant remember the actual words, one about water in the ear, the other...ahhhh, I am getting old. Anyway in Philly I was past ruckas raised and a pure pain. The YFF had done enough nose refs that when RH started with talking about how part of his nose was stuffed up I yelled something out. Anyway, he rolled right over it with aplomb. When hes on, when its a good night, I think he's more than capable of dealing with drunken louts. And on a high eye-blink night most louts have enough sense to keep their mouths shut. As to whether he's shy or self-consious or not--Im not sure you can tell that from how he acts on stage.
