Hi everyone, Sorry I can't get to the computer more often ... I'm going using the computer at the library - just until my new room in my new house is joined by my desk - which is in storage. I _so_ understand why moving is a crazy thing to do. But under my circumstances, well; Tim's decision to go out with a 17 year old instead of me while I was away kinda forced me to move - ya know ... Now ... robyn & the boys .... I wish Robyn's schedule wasn't so complicated in the driving sense ... Is anyone (Eddie?) coming to Toronto between Boston & Detroit? I'm trying to figure out if I could get a ride back from Detroit or Chicago, or take the bus or something ... that's if someone's coming here ... I would just so love to put up some fegs ... everyone ... sharkboy, carole, nick, (the whole njaz) karen, chris, simone, cynthia, tom & eddie were so helpful in giving me refuge and transportation and the pleasure of their respective companies ... I would so love to return the amazingly wonderful gift of feg-hospitality. Ross, are you driving in from Montreal? I wish I wish I wish I could visit with East Coast fegs, next year maybe, then I gotta go back West ... and hit some spots in the middle ... So - anyone ... coming to T.O.? 1-416-932-1970 my private line ... ... so excited for this show I'm willing to go to the hospital for 10 days to get looked at to see if I can travel ... so psyched!!!!! Hope everyone loves the shows they see, can't wait to read about them :-} fading back into yesterday before tomorrow comes, *what scares you most will set you free* ~ robyn hitchcock (and the soft boys might play this live!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) OK, gang, I delurk this one time to let everybody know that Oxford University is *not* in Cambridge... unless you're an editor for Sonicnet! Of course, I what I actually wrote was that Cambridge was home to Cambridge University (and, for that matter, the phrase I used in my review was "prog-rock," not "pro -rock"). But, hey, what are editors for if not to make writers look good ;) Fortunately, these idiotic rewrites of my review have been corrected online, although others which are not factually incorrect remain. One's work for such outlets is customarily rewritten for, uch, "style," etc., so don't let the byline fool ya. Yrs. humiliatedly, Don Share Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! (aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh) They played it at The 3 Kings, and a very fine version it was too. Just a note on the new songs they played there. Sudden Town and My Mind Is Connected To Your Dreams were good; slightly Byrdsian if I remember rightly, but that might have been because they were played round about the same time as Bells Of Rhymney. Mr Kennedy is truly great I reckon. It reminds me slightly of Wreckless Eric's song I Wish It Would Rain, lyrically and in the chorus's melody. There's a newly re-mastered compilation of Eric's Stiff Records stuff now out in UK/Europe. Another quirky and compelling songwriter who started in the mid/late '70s! His version of Clevor Trever on the Ian Dury tribute album Brand New Boots And Panties is very good. Also nice contributions from Billy Bragg, Madness and Paul McCartney. Eric's playing at The Boston Arms in Tufnell Park, London on the 23rd. I'll be there. Anyone else fancy it? jmbc PS I forgot, of course, the greatest poetry performance of them all. As a bonus, the foreward to STRUGGLE is by Leo DiCaprio and his dad George, who actually knew Szukalski. (I must warn the more sensitive Fegs that some of Szukalski's writings are of a nature that may cause meltdown in even the most robust PC meters). Those most excellent public servants at Last Gasp have also scheduled ANIMA MUNDI - THE ART OF MARK RYDEN (April) and Robert Fowler's THE WORLD OF CHICK? The kid's a no-talent. That first solo CD was just shit. I liked his solo album all right. It was no better than "fair," but it was interesting enough to give me hope that his next album will be better. I like where he's headed (even if he clearly hasn't gotten there yet), and I look forward to hearing his next try. That's more than I can say for Julian (or Ringo, George and Yoko, for that matter). I did see Sean Lennon once, already...sort of. I saw him play bass with Cibo Matto a few years ago, in a small university eatery. I didn't even realize it was him, until someone mentioned him after the show! At the time, I hadn't yet been exposed to his recent beefy/nerd-glasses/dyed-blond-highlights look. Meanwhile, Sean's mention on the above list reflects the large number of bands I *have* seen, more than any breathless enthusiasm for his own tunes. I mean, if I were to compile a list of my favorite 50 active bands, I've probably seen 45 of them perform. (And Sean certainly wouldn't be one of those 50. Nor would any of the other acts I previously listed, except for Badly Drawn Boy.) After all, the album sounds more like a Grand Royal album than a Lennon album. In any case, I *would* "ehhh the shit" out of Julian Lennon, and he has the same familial connection.
