I'm loving my Powerbook Ti. It gets a bit toasty, but it's not intolerable. The big display, however, is totally rocking. I'm still not sure whether I approve of the loss of curves in the Ti. I do, however, totally approve of the unfinished metal look, and if I had to give up the curves for that, it's worth it. IMHO, the Ti has more sex than any other computer I've seen (which isn't saying much, granted), and it /does/ turn heads. I think everyone at the office has pawed over mine by now. I don't even use my desktops anymore. The Ti has more'n enough power to keep my happy using it as my only computer - with the added bonus that it goes with me wherever I go. Well, it certainly wasn't aimed at you, as it was a private email to Doug that I stupidly mailed to the whole list. And in that mail, I was talking about Jeme's merits in the real world, not his behavior onlist. Moreover, I was talking about people _really_ not being willing to listen to his ideas or consider them, which I get the impression that you do (listen to his ideas and consider them, I mean). I don't need people to agree with every idea that I agree with, but it is damned frustrating to be confronted with a situation in which people are obviously just covering their ears and going "La la la, don't want new information...perfectly comfortable with the status quo, la la la". Which, I stress, was a situation that occured out there in the real world, not on list. So you can put your antenna down (but you look so cute with them up, you could leave them if you like). I don't know quite what to say... Well, I do actually. I know that from the beginning plus ones were very limited...*before* I announced anything to the list. There were repeated e-mails from Matador stressing this fact. There never seemed to be any change of tack on this to my way of thinking. However, I apologise to anyone who didn't get in *if* Ghost Surfer's 'source' is correct. I'll check with my 'source' tomorrow! But, really, to suggest that Matador were ever going to open it up to fans is either bollocks in the first place or complete lunacy on their part. The place is fuckin' miniscule! Do the maths (that one's for you Matt ;-)) Perhaps you could e-mail me off-list anyway, GS, so we can sort this out in a gentlemanly fashion...pistols at dawn perhaps ;-). On balance, maybe I shouldn't have announced it anyway. I was very excited and it was a rather boastful gesture, however, I did genuinely think people would be interested, if a trifle envious. And I did mention that it was a record party thing/invite only, and given the make-up of the list I didn't think anyone would go battering the doors down. To repeat, The Three Kings is microscopic. Yes, it's a home from home for Robyn and the gang, but for an event of this magnitude it was perhaps the wrong choice. And it was pretty packed anyway! And a fair proportion of those were people who didn't seem to have more than a vague acquaintance with the boys. I think a lot of Matador's invites probably went to biz people with other connections who they wanted to butter up/reward. The legendary Nigel Cross didn't get an invite till the very last minute, I know that for a fact! Oh golly. A rather unsettled night for me coming up. When I want to switch off, I watch TV. I don't pretend that I am becoming a better person by watching. When I need intellectual or emotional stimulation, I read or write or listen to (or play) music. That's not to say that I don't enjoy intelligent, well-written programs, however. It's just not all that easy to find a show that goes beyond formulaic plots, characters and situations. When I do it's a real treat and I try to tune in as often as possible. Bibo ergo sum: I don't drink much. Well, not much more than the average Irish soccer team, that is. When I do drink, it's beer. Just the smell of wine gives me a headache and most everything else puts me in touch with my inner innards. My wife really enjoys Jagermeister, but I don't usually have any unless I'm camping. We both pretty much consider ourselves beer drinkers. In fact, we toasted with beer instead of champagne at our wedding (Lagunitas PILS Pilsner from Lagunitas Brewery in Petaluma, CA). LP--(Big Beat records--Australia, and Plane records--Germany, with the lyrics translated into German on the inner sleeve) A Day in the Life--Bob Flexi (#42) Alright Yeah was a Bob Flexi (#54) that Robyn sang in German, rather than as stated, "In Germany Alright, Yeah was released on a 7" flexy disc." Flesh Number One was a 12" rather than 7" plus there are many other non-UK/US pressings of regular catalogue items (ex. Globe of Frogs LP from Germany, (I Want to be an) Anglepoise Lamp 7" & Madonna of the Wasps/Ruling Class 7", both from Australia, etc.) No mentions were made of items that have appeared on previous discographies which have since seemed to be non-existent--LP of Respect, 12" of Heaven on Relativity records, 7" of Heaven on Slash. Does anyone know for sure if any of these three do in fact exist? Later, Marc "Looking back, I don't know why we needed it to be quite so loud all the time" - --- Peter Townshend ________________________________________________________________
