I think my first exposure to Robyn was probably the video for "Madonna of the Wasps" on 120 Minutes, a show you can thank or blame for a large chunk of my musical taste or lack thereof. After that, I found _Globe of Frogs_ on vinyl at the local library (and discovered that a friend of mine was in love with the loopiness of the Manifesto in that particular album). Robyn and I clearly shared a love of flora, fauna, and terrific melodies. Oddly enough I managed to move on to _Eye_ and _I Often Dream of Trains_ soon after that, and it wasn't until later that a friend at college taped _Fegmania!_, _Invisible Hitchcock_, _Groovy Decay_, _Underwater Moonlight_ (I think), and some Syd Barrett songs for me. Et cetera. In the meantime, of course, I was buying and (at the time) ehhing the other A&M records, vastly preferring the earlier stuff (as I guess I still do). So if I have anyone to thank for my fegmania today, I guess it would be two quirky, tall, slender Jennifers and one Dave Kendall. One of those Jennifers lives in Portland now and wrote a clever little book called _Bouzi_, which I recommend. Drew P.S. I don't drink much and I don't watch TV much. Actually, 2nd Avenue Records is kind of a rinkydink place run by a bunch of aging punks... I'm sure they know nothing about "street dates" and the like. They had a copy behind the counter... only one they had. It wasn't priced. Hell, probably the guy sold me his in-store promo copy that just arrived yesterday. In Portland, The Soft Boys are playing the Pine Street... I've been at shows there with well over 900 people, I think. I was also there when the fire marshall came to shut us down for having more than 250 to hear Jello Biafra speak. Isn't that the treatment of political dissidents that makes us bomb other countries?
