Its something I've been hoping to see CD for a long time, but to see it getting so much display space ( and only a few days after the brit awards) was totally unexpected. The new packaging includes a nice booklet with a "story of the making of..." and some piccies. I am happy to report that it sounds as wonderful as it ought. My vinyl copy can be retired with full honours. Alas, it suffers from bonus tracks. FC is one of those albums that Finishes (like IODOT, Sgt Pepper) and one should "wait one moment before the spell is broken" at the end before engaging in more music, the first CD reissue of IODOT was correct in putting the extra tracks in the middle. Anyway after the majestic You Set the Scene we're straight into demo versions, alternate mixes, studio talk, and the final single. All of which I'm glad to have heard but I will rarely want to hear again. I wish had the facilities to make a CDR with just the original album. As it is, I already own three versions of that album on CD: 1) the original, terrible-sounding Elektra release, 2) the version scattered across two CDs on the "Love Story" comp (I bought that comp just to get the cleaned up "Forever Changes"), and 3) a custom CD-R I made by pulling all the "Forever Changes" cuts from "Love Story" onto a single disc. Yeah, I know, I know. I'm a Pawn of The Recording Industry. But I really, really like that album. So, should I buy the new "Forever Changes" and round off my collection of Forever Changeses? Incidentally, Visionary's website says this: Making it into 1985, the next notable step was Robyn Hitchcocks "Hen" video. Based on filming of a live gig at the old Marquee, it uses much super 8 film along with additional music and footage to create an extremely diverse and interesting piece. By this time we'd got our own professional camera equipment and were taking the general content of our work a lot more seriously. The approach for live filming changed eventually as we moved away from live vision-mix to recording all the camera's individually and doing the edit later. We usually worked with three cameras and rather that a professional team, used friends with little experience who were plumbers, gardeners or the like. The key was for them to have an active interest in music. By taking this tack, we felt we were producing more abrasive and watchable music TV than the broadcasters could get anywhere near.
