The Fry's in Sunnyvale (down the road from the Kit Kat Club, right?) is supposed to be a "History of Silicon Valley" theme. They have an original Apple I and a bunch of other artifacts on display. You're right though, it's not as obvious as the others. And the Egyptian themed store is in Campbell, close to my house, but we go to the one in Sunnyvale anyway because it's so much less claustrophobic. Although I do not use it as a substitute for proofing, I am a terrible speller in the near-dyslexic tradition. Once many years ago, I called my friend and asked how to spell does. For the live of me I could not get it even with the computer to correct my errors. I still wonder how I could forget it and not even think it up. Sadly, Lyx is the poor state of open source offerings in this range. Little compelling evidence is given as to what Lyx can do and why I should use it. The documentation cant even get the concept of patch and full install correct. If I were trying to impress comp.sys.open.source.snork.no.microsoft.snork, I might give it a shot. However, I spend most my work day wrestling with lame apps as it is. Why should I download one that may or may not be a simple word processor, work to get it installed and then have to learn if it will do what I want it to when all I want to do is write and layout simple documents? Also, the GUI is how I use a computer for the most part. Why should I be forced to use a computer they way someone else thinks I should use it, be they Microsoft or Lyx? To me they both fail, Microsoft just has better documentation to entice me to download their effortless install. Is there a lesson in that? Yes. Glenn Uber wrote: > > Give Sun's StarOffice suite a shot. This is the options I have actually downloaded. All of the failings in Lyx above have been addressed here. I finally hacked the Word problem, but it still does not leave it in any favor in my mind. But, I am going to stick with it until I am done with this project, as I do not need a learning curve here.
