It's like Medieval Times meets >Aztec Ruins meets Mega Lo Mart. i live in the south bay (ca) and have been to three or four Fry's around here. the closest one to me has a "computer" (no, really) theme - the old store had "enter" and "exit" giant keyboard keys on the doors and the decor was supposed to remind you of high-tech whatever. the new one they built, down the street, is kinda vaguely high-tech themeless whatever. there's an aztec/mayan/jungle fry's near where i work in san jose, with a cafe inside with a thatched roof, jungle murals on the walls and torch-shaped lighting. the fry's in cupertino is egyptian themed, complete with an escalator to take you to the front door atop sloping steps, and inside you'll find generic egyptian god/temple/pyramid decor. the one in palo alto is cowboy/western themed, with hitching posts and overused cow-print, straw and sawdust and whatnot. most fry's have themes, from what i've seen, though i don't know of any beyond the 4 or so in my vicinity .. seems like a lot of trouble to go to for somewhere that generally sells broken/refurbished/twice-returned-and-put-back-on-the-shelf crap. but yes, i still buy my pc games there. twitchily, Eclipse - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Eclipse | eclipse@best.com If this is not what you expected, please alter your expectations. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 15:26:19 -0800 From: "Russ Reynolds" Subject: Re: Headphones: The Final Conflict > Well, yesterday I drove out of my way to another Fry's outlet and did > manage to find the discontinued Sony MDR-V6 headphones (four pairs, in > fact). *Weird* decor at that place, by the way -- it basically has a > "warehouse" floorplan, but the interior has all this extra stonework which > makes the place look like "Roman ruins." Wow! Yeah, we've got one like that in San Jose, only I think the SJ one is an Egyptian theme. I could be wrong but whatever it is, it's certainly a unique place to shop. - -rUss ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 15:47:09 -0700 From: Eb Subject: Re: Headphones: The Final Conflict >> Well, yesterday I drove out of my way to another Fry's outlet and did >> manage to find the discontinued Sony MDR-V6 headphones (four pairs, in >> fact). *Weird* decor at that place, by the way -- it basically has a >> "warehouse" floorplan, but the interior has all this extra stonework which >> makes the place look like "Roman ruins." Funny thing...a local friend just pointed out that the Fry's I usually visit is actually *space*-themed. There are a couple of large space-shuttle cockpit/nose sets around...the motif isn't nearly as pervasive as the Roman bit, however. I just never consciously thought about the space stuff, before. Here in Peoria we have a Fry's that's decorated to look EXACTLY like the Best Buy located a half-mile up the road! Same yellow signs and everything. They were talking about building a theme park around it, but I guess they didn't think they could compete with "Larry's Magic World of Sludge-Removal Equipment"... The other outlet doesn't have a theme? Palo Alto's has this gawdawful "Wild West" theme. Sunnyvale's doesn't have one, I don't think, but there's another one near Cupertino (I think) that has a cool Egyptian theme. Well...as cool as Fry's gets, I guess. If I remember correctly, the Fry's in Dallas off IH635 was originally an IC. It seems like Fry's moved in and the little design theme thingies stayed the same, though I only ever saw that IC from the road and have been to Fry's only a couple times. gss ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Feb 2001 13:39:08 -0500 From: recount chocula Subject: matador matador records now has (and probably has had for a while) a section of their site devoted to the underwater moonlight re-issues. includes a track list, news bits and other assorted stuff. woj ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Feb 2001 14:06:49 -0500 From: recount chocula Subject: Re: matador when we last left our heroes, recount chocula exclaimed: >matador records now has (and probably has had for a while) a section of >their site devoted to the underwater moonlight re-issues. er, i meant "re-issue". there aren't more than one. ;) +w ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Feb 2001 19:24:38 -0500 (EST) From: Bayard Subject: Mat & door "To me, music doesn't depend on what appears to be the music world - the business of music," says Rew, a Kinks and Beatles devotee who freely admits that he stopped "following the new" back in 1972.
