Absolutely not! Actually, I've been meaning to announce that I've already copied all the Robynbase stuff to www.jh3.com/robyn/base, though it's still on the old site as well... I'll probably delete the old location eventually so that I won't have to maintain two sites, but since I haven't been maintaining even one site, it'll probably be months (if not several millenia) before www.alternatech.net/jh3/robyn/base is deleted. And as far as rs.com is concerned, Eddie has it right - the idea of having to go through three separate page loads just to get to a particular date (with no indication that you're going to find anything whatsoever until you actually get there) is a pretty obvious ploy to increase hit count for the banner ads. And a lousy way too, since most people aren't that patient... Hah! the computers don't take the overlapping time of a jock's VT and the song into question, people forget to load enough music or the right commercials into the computer. plus, the computer programs themselves may have weird little glitches (never picks up the last commercial of the 11PM hour sunday-thursday nights for instance, to think of a particular computer I work with) that need to be accomodated. it's still not brain surgery. thank god we have directv. and get a lot of reading for school done. > Frightening crappy stuff. in what sense? the two guys who do the VTs for the stations i look over are both up into their 40's, 50's. they have other duties within the corporation. while it's true one station could probably have someone younger doing it live, having a twenty-something DJ on one of them would not be well-suited to the target demo. there are a lot of things about what's going on in the radio industry that are disturbing: 5 companies owning all the stations, everything being programmed from new york, etc. but not having live dj's at 3 in the morning isn't one of them, and not just because i have the job that's in it's place. ===== "With [Amnesiac] we are definitely having singles, videos, glossy magazine celebrity photo shoots, children's television appearances, film premiere appearances, dance routines, and many interesting interviews about my tortured existence." -- Thom Yorke Yahoo! At RadOne (the student station I still do the odd show for) all playlisted songs, ads, promos, music beds, and intros are on a system called MegaHertz (IIRC). Thankfully, being a student station, only about 30% of songs are playlisted (and because I do a specialist show on a graveyard shift, virtually none of mine are). This does have the advantage that on extreme-graveyard slots (eg 2-5 am Sunday morning), the station can simply be put on autopilot. Very depersonalising, though. I'm sure that at least a small proportion of the music is web-downloaded, too, although I've no incontrovertible evidence. I don't think Robyn would say the same thing now about the preferability of WB over Kimberley. I think a lot of those comments were made in the years when he wasn't working with Kim and seem to smack of Golden Age revisionism. Several areas deserve the protection Clinton can grant by declaring them national monuments. They include the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska and the Siskiyou Rivers region of coastal Oregon, one of the most diverse coniferous rain forests in the world. Additional words of wisdom from the Los Angeles times editorial: From Jan. 20 on, it will be a defensive battle to protect the lands granted special protection during the past eight years. Development forces argue that such actions "lock up" the public lands and prevent proper "management" by the affected states. In fact, they save unspoiled lands as a legacy for this and future generations of Americans. These forests are for the use and enjoyment of all the people. They are no longer the province of the resource extractors and exploiters who have had their way far too long at the public's expense. <><><><><><><>>>><<<<><><><><><><><><> Visit the Siskiyou Wild Rivers website to learn more - www.siskiyourivers.org ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V10 #11 *******************************
