Of course, English has so many damn exceptions and this would be just another of them. But I can't think off the top of my head of any other words (except one proper noun - Edgware) that follow g with a consonant where the g is soft. The latter was not the most sensitive and intelligent exploration of bisexuality and jealousy I've ever seen, but it was _surprisingly_ mature in some ways, I thought. Much more so than a lot of other films by straight male auteurs I've seen. It was pretty shrill and unsatisfying in some ways, I thought, and parts of the ending bothered me, but I like Kevin Smith being abrasive and difficult and uncomfortable. The fact that I kinda want to meet his gay doppelganger has nothing to do with that, of course. > From: Terrence Marks > I thought Dogma was fairly amusing, but with the worst ending I've ever > seen in a movie... Yeah, I was kinda grooving on the casting of you-know-who, but when I actually saw the scene I squirmed all through it. > From: Eb > I much prefer leaving them out, myself. But, see, the comma I leave in is the one after "cereal," because that's the penultimate item in the series. I'd omit the one after "sauce" for sure. A lot of people insist that it should be "I bought eggs, cereal and spaghetti sauce." I just can't warm to that. Drew ===== Andrew D. Bummer. Does anybody know of a way around this? Maybe you can include Soft Boys, Robyn with other artists, and cover versions of Robyn songs. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Nov 2000 12:00:55 EST From: BLATZMAN@aol.com Subject: Puddyin on the witz In a message dated 11/17/2000 5:45:35 PM US Mountain Standard Time, owner-fegmaniax-digest@smoe.org writes: << it's hard for me to understand how you loved Respect but hated the last two albums. I really like Respect but I like Moss Elixir and Jewels for Sophia much better. They weren't "totally shitty" at all >> Respect was short and sweet. Emotionally powerful yet quirky. It's strangeness, to me, is very organic. Then comes the Moss/Mossy mess. 2 records for the price of one. I'd prefer 1 CD with 10 great tunes, and a few singles for Trilobite b-sides. And multiple versions of one song? Heliotrope, on Mossy, has wonderful backing vocals that the CD version left off. And those God-Aweful horns in DeChirico street RUIN that tune on Moss. His production decisions bit the big one. He had all the elements there at his fingertips to make a great CD, and he floundered. Thank god for the digital age cause I think I can salvage the whole mess with a CD burner. I can put a better 8 to 10 song CD together that might be enjoyable. For me (can I stress "for Me" to all the widdle puddies), a single bad song ruins the flow af a CD. 2 Bad songs and it's disappointing, bad songs scattered all over the place so that I have to hit the forward button all the time cause me to never put the CD in to listen to the few tracks I like. AND PLEASE, what is up with that horrible version of Allright Yeah. Are things so crappy that he has to take a 2 year old B-Side and release it as a single? And why the hell bother with a swedish version. Who the hell is going to listen to that? You might call Mossy "one for the fans", but the alternate takes of DeChirico AND Heliotrope were far far superior. And who the hell still has a record player to play that crap? And Devil's Radio was SCREAMING for a real band to play it. He shot himself in the foot with that one. He writes a great tune that the Egyptians would have made heavenly, then churns it out in the dullest of ways. Perhaps it was growing pains, or Downsizing pains, but I missed the Egyptians something aweful Then we have Poo for Sophia. If I were Sophia, I'd be PISSED that Robyn named his worst CD for her. Nasa Clapping is so trendy and weak and just plain BORING. For me (and let me stress "for Me" to all the widdle puddies out there) Jewels lacks an emotional punch. The quirkiness is forced. I expect a more mature Robyn after all these years. Sorry, but songs about Frogs licking Tweety Birds just don't do it for me anymore. I've always thought he's at his best when he's singing plaintively. Poo For Sophia is just boring. I'm waiting for the Egyptians to get back together. Anyone know if Robyn intends to record with a real band next time out? Never say never.... The Chameleons are playing in LA around Thanksgiving, as I'm sure some of you know!!!!!! <> Hey Puddy, I'm perfectly able to express my opinions in the same fluffy way. I guess the difference is that this is not truly a discussion, but rather an expression of my beliefs, I'm just telling it like it is. I'm not out to convert you to my way of thinking. And I don't care what you think of me, so I'm not going to edit myself in your presence. It's nice that he can sugar coat his beliefs in front of you, but if you get him in a room full of like-minded people, I'm sure he'll turn it up to 11 and let out some words that would hurt your feelings. People who believe in the Death Penalty might not use the words "they can rot in hell" on this list, but with like minded people, I'm sure they'll say more than "an eye for an eye." I'm super duper happy that you have a conservative friend! Good for you! I have friends who are black and hispanic! I even socialize with the gays! I love people! Well, I really didn't intend for the comma after "sauce" to become an issue. The extra comma I meant was the one after "cereal." Change the sample sentence to something similar, if you like. "I bought eggs, cereal and spaghetti sauce, then checked into a sanitarium." I just can't warm to adding another comma after "cereal" -- I think it makes the sentence much harder to read. But obviously, some style guides disagree. Eb ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Nov 2000 18:19:34 -0700 From: Eb Subject: RIP Kid Rock's midget sidekick, Joe C. Only 26 years old. Awww.
