So I'm perusing this new Nick Drake website (www.nickdrakeworld.com) and there's a wanted/for sale section, where I saw the following: > For sale: 3 hour radio show broadcast on American station WCBN FM, > 20th June 1999. Features Drake's songs, tributes by Martyn, Hitchcock > etc, various covers and the home recordings monologue. Available, > on two cassettes, for #7 from: Jack Gillon, 12 Kirkhill Rd, > Edinburgh, EH16 5DD, UK. This is my radio show from last year, which I taped and sent to this guy for free, and now he's selling it. (Dunno whether he's just selling the copy I sent him or whether he's making copies.) How fucking rude. Stewart, will you go kick his ass for me? Thanks. n. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Sep 2000 21:06:31 -0400 (EDT) From: dmw Subject: Re: AC at LP (where was Hef??) I haven't looked into it since we discussed it months ago. Last I heard latency problems were keeping Linux from being a viable platform for recording musicians. Even before that it was pretty simple as long as you didn't have odd adapters. The latency problems, as I understand them, are in the disk i/o pre-empting whozawhatzits. I don't know much about device interrupts and the like. In the 2.4 kernels, the alsa stuff is built right in, so we'll see if that doesn't solve a few of the so-called issues. I'll leave the verdicts to the experts. linux 2.4 should be available within the next four or six months. That's my own guess anyway. They're well into test releases. > > And Jeme will come over to your house and set up a linux box for it > > to run on. > ;) Now have you ever tried to set up Linux? It's really not all that > hard. Not only that, but I'll come over to your house and set it up for you. :) Seriously, though, your city probably has a Linux User's Group and ever LUG has install parties. You bring your hardware and they help you get going. It's part of the charter. Yeah, installing Red Hat is like installing Windows. That's why I'd say use Debian.
