I wasn't aware of this "universal gesture" until last night, but I figured it out pretty quick. I also saw a *second* hippie teengirl, doing the same thing. I watched a man give *her* a free ticket, and she acted all excited and happy and appreciative. Awww. BUT...about five minutes later, I saw her again with her finger in the air, asking for *another* single ticket. Grrrr. Seems like a con game at work. Either a carload of deadbeat Deadheads get the "cute" one of their group to beg for tickets, or scalpers hire nubile young nymphs to bat their eyes for tickets (to be re-sold at a profit)? Either way, pretty disgusting. In any case, I felt very used, when the girl who got my extra ticket never showed up in my row. I should've felt like a Good Samaritan...instead I felt like a Big Sucker. Something resembling my midyear top 10: 1. Elliott Smith/Figure 8 2. Eels/Daisies of the Galaxy 3. Patti Smith/Gung Ho 4. Lou Reed/Ecstasy Somewhere in the top 10 (presumably): Billy Bragg & Wilco/Mermaid Avenue II, which I still haven't heard Eb (yeesh, what a gray-haired list...where's the new talent?) - --- Found newsgroup quote, relating to the concert tragedy: "If everything in the world was going to disappear except for one thing, I would hope that Pearl Jam would be what remained... this is to say that Pearl Jam is the utmost important thing to me in my entire existence..." ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Jul 2000 22:28:32 -0400 From: overbury@cn.ca Subject: Re: Speaking of Canadia... > What is a "Canuck" (where does that word come from?)
