Simchik" Subject: Robyn Hitchcock Tribute Show in Portland 7/22 hello my fellow squids... looks like there will be a Robyn Hitchcock Tribute in Portland being put together by masterful singer/songwriter Colin Meloy. The date is July the Twenty Second at the Rabbit HOle / Mad Hatter Lounge (Thats in Southeast at Grand and Pine, me thinks..) Its "open" to whomwever wishes to contribute, so rosin up that bow ye Portland Fegs. To join in the bloody fray, email Colin at cmeloy@uswest.net and let him know you're interested in performing. He asks that you include in your reply the two or three songs you'd be interested in doing. For what its worth, Im going to do a number or two, so there no limits to the depths this thing can go. :-) paul ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 May 2000 12:04:39 EDT From: "brian nupp" Subject: Re: Illicit pron for your Memorial Day Hey, I checked it out! For those that have joined us recently (IE, since 1996), "Glass Flesh" is a fan-driven project that got started ages and ages ago on this very list. (i think three servers ago!) in 1994. What it is... is, an ever-increasing archive of cover songs written by robyn and performed by people on this list (and their friends) including lots of up-and-coming musicans of great talent, as well as some who have already made names for themselves. Some names you know from reading the posts here. Even an occasional person well-known to music fans will crop up (Vic Chesnutt; random and incognito members of the 'elephant 6 collective'; and more...) To those who did not make it on this time. It is not because your contributions are poor. There are many songs we wanted on this disc that could not be included to space reasons. The up side of that is, every song on the disc is good. And here they are: 1 Queen Elvis - Triskellion 2 Vibrating - The Very Idea 3 Balloon Man - Ross Overbury 4 Raymond Chandler Evening - Mark Gloster 5 Brenda's Iron Sledge (6 string version) Kevin Slick 6 Executioner - Orchestraville 7 Somewhere Apart - LMP 8 Satellite - Charisma-TRON 9 Sleeping with your Devil Mask - Groove Puppy 10 Chinese Bones - The Love Spots 11 Chinese Boys Again - Michael Brage 12 You've Got - John H. Hedges 13 Airscape - Mark Allen 14 Surgery - The Virgineers 15 Only the Stones Remain - the Number Nine Line 16 The Crawling - Edward of Sim 17 Birdshead - David Anderson 18 Flavor of Night - The Southern Drinking Companions 19 Alright Yeah - Sir Demon Brown 20 Glass - The New Nairobi Trio 21 Aquarium - Marshmallow Coast To those who did not get on this time: take heart. There will likely be a third volume and you are eligible to be on it. The sleeve art is being done by an extremely talented artist in NYC who is a longstanding feg in her own right. I think you know who I mean. More news will be forthcoming soon. I am polishing the digital audio and all that remains is to write the disc and finish up the artwork and ship both off to Oasis Duplication. Thanks so much for your contributions to this project. =b PS: once this is done I'll be able to do more with the "Fish Gloss" deal, including (or actually as part of) a much more extensive fegbands site. There will be a new and improved Glass Flesh site on glasshotel.net as soon as I can manage it. To includees: PLEASE send me text for the liner notes!!!!! =b ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Jun 2000 13:11:14 +1200 From: digja611@student.otago.ac.nz Subject: Re: RIP... and Doris Hare, 96 (anyone else here remember "On the buses"?) It's way near the bottom of my XTC album ranking. "My Brown Guitar" is high on the list of offenders, but "Playground" and "Boarded Up" keep it company. I'm pretty iffy on "Church of Women," too.
