Just as an example of how indoctrinated are these mindless enmities, when I was in sixth grade I told some of my classmates that my father was almost stationed in Libya, and had he been, I would have been born there. They immediately began calling me a traitor. A traitor! For having almost been born on enemy soil! Almost! Not even! Of course, the reaction I had been erroneously hoping for was one of awe- I'm not sure why I thought that bit of information was likely to produce that reaction. So you can imagine my consternation when, yet again, my interactions with the other kids led to ridicule. Oh, those bygone days... Vivien _you_ feel some awe, don't you? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online and get email alerts with Yahoo! Can anyone help me out with this: 1) The song that talks about seeing the devil in the nude, it was embarrassing, I turned away, etc. 2) I can't understand the words to this song very well, but it sounds like he keeps repeating, "I don't know why she never gets anywhere with me" 3) Again, I can't understand the words real well on this one, but the chorus might be: Maybe I will find today Maybe I will lose tomorrow Gonna rock on to the ocean side Any assistance would be much appreciated! Filmmaker. Peter Greenaway. Born in Newport, Gwent, Wales, UK directed and wrote a film called ** A Zed & Two Noughts ** in 1985 'Zed' stands for "Z" and "Noughts" are the "O"s in a games called "Noughts and Crosses" {something like tic tac toe} So ... Z O O 'A Zed and Two Noughts' was about two brothers who were, in fact, zoologists. In any case I, as a very secure Canadian, unlike *Joe,* ;-} enjoy differences, so maybe Americans are really cool 'cause they are the only ones who "do not" say "zed." : } fading back into yesterday, Randi ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 30 Apr 2000 22:38:47 -0400 (EDT) From: Bayard Subject: Re: Help with Robyn Song Titles paul sez: > I'm making inserts for my Denver bootleg > cd's, and there are three songs for which > I do not know the titles. hey there, just a reminder - you can get setlists for all the Rock Armada gigs using robynbase: http://www.alternatech.net/jh3/robyn/base/ Chairs! =b ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 01 May 2000 04:30:03 GMT From: "James Hadfield" Subject: Re: Iron Giant Anybody out there not seen The Iron Giant yet? NZers say 'zed and spell things in English - we get it from Britain. Australians say 'zee' and spell things in American because they don't know any better. Every other country that uses 'English', with the possible exception of the heavily influenced Caribbean nations, says 'zed'. And if you want to know the easy way to tell the difference between kiwis and aussies, just get them to say advance. If they use the British "ah" vowel in the centre, they;'re likely kiwis. If you're going to buy this movie, I would urge you to get the widescreen version. This film was shot in anamorphic Panavision, which means you are getting less than half the picture in a full-frame pan-and-scan video. Many shots make a lot more sense visually in widescreen. And you're right -- The Iron Giant is one of the most criminally overlooked movies of the 90's, and one of the finest animated films I've seen in a long, long time. Fuck Tarzan. And fuck Warner Bros. for not marketing this movie aggressively enough. And fuck American parents for being so goddamn hypocritical; ranting and raving about how Hollywood doesn't make enough movies they can take their children to, then Hollywood gives them exactly that -- entertaining, heart-warming, a film that actually contains valid and moral messages (be yourself, guns are bad, do the right thing, the value of friendship), and everyone falls all over themselves to get into this Pokecrap instead. But you didn't like Three Kings? That movie was cool! I'm just about to turn 25, have lived in Seattle all my life, and in addition to Robyn Hitchcock, am a big fan of the Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Kinks, XTC, and Elvis Costello. I was wondering if there were any plans to rerelease the Soft Boys' "Underwater Moonlight" on CD any time soon, or if I would be better off getting a used copy of the Rykodisc issue?
