If you ever get a chance to meet him, you ought to. Nice fellow. I'm sure some of the rest of you can vouch for him. The Charm Conspiracy opened for them. They're local to Orlando. They looked oh so glam-punk. I've always had a weakness for bands that dress the part. They're major Syd Barrett fans and seem to be my kind of people. Sounded good, too. The Apples were a five-piece that night. I don't know if that's normal. The other guitarist said he was from Sonic Youth, and he'd know better than I. Rob Schneider so reminds me of Mike Love. The hair, the beard, the nasalness. More stage presence, though. I was expecting him to be shorter. I really liked High Tide. There's just something about Rob screaming "people run around, but they don't know nothing ABOUT BEING FREE!". He just puts so much energy into it. "Bird you can't see" rocked pretty well too. There wasn't much in the way of backing vocals, which was disappointing. A lot of the Apples songs are made or broken by the backing vocals on the studio versions. I had to provide my own on several songs. I probably wound up getting every note wrong on "Heroes & Villains". I mentioned the tinfoil Thoths to Rob and his face just lit up. He said some nice things about Natalie demanded that I tell her "hi" for him. Setlist: I snagged one of theirs and got them to autograph it. Rainbow Alright/not quite strawberry fire What's the #? Damn, he beat me to it! Sheesh! James Dignan's timely mention of ye olde Monkees simply screamed for me to write this yesterday, but lo, work was a bitch. Yep, I indeed did get to meet the mythical Terrence on Wednesday night. Am I the first feg to meet him face to face? Eddie...what's the stats? Terrence was decked out in a very Robyn-ish dragon pattern shirt. With regards to the supposed accent, I can now vouch that it is indeed not British, but full-blooded Pompano Beach. You see, Pompano is one of those rare places where small enclaves of divergent dialects congregate and breed. This also explains that odd warbling tone of Quail's (Pennsylvania having many such enclaves), and Eddie's crisp bass-y persuasive tones. Needless to say, the Monkees only came up once (as did Eb). Terry's off exploring the deeper recesses of pop music these days. Anyway, yeah, the show was good. I enjoyed the Apples much more live than on record. I might have a new appreciation for them, or at least a new vantage point from which to listen to the recordings. Powerful and really fun. I didn't make it through the whole show though (not as much of a trooper as Terry...or else just a whole lot older...ugh), the Apples didn't even start until after midnight...some crappy H20 punk band played an all-ages 6pm show. Got home 'bout 3am and was dead as shit tired the next day. URgh. Mike (trying to find his feg stat-book so he can put down another checkmark) Runion n.p.
