"tutelage" "benefitting" the other countries). we know more or less what it would be like, given he's got the backing of the republican party. and, to clarify, i'm not saying that there'd be a huge difference one way or the other. but gore does have a record, after a fashion. the legacy of the clinton administration will be the obliteration of iraq. halliday's said that the only word he can use to describe u.s. policy is "genocidal". i'm personally not sure how much motives should play into assignation of the term -- and i don't think the policy is based on the fact that they're *iraqis*, or muslims. either way, it's one of the more monumental crimes of the century, and al gore is a quite-willing accomplice. from : "Starting with his own voluntary service in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, Al Gore has stood for a strong national defense, and an America that leads the world toward peace, freedom, and prosperity, for his entire career. From his early leadership in the House and Senate on arms control and nuclear deterrence; to his support for strong action against rogue states such as Saddam Hussein's Iraq; to his work to promote democracy, free markets and disarmament in the former Soviet Union, often serving as a critical direct channel to world leaders at times of conflict - -- Al Gore has been a key player in American foreign policy for more than two decades. As a member of President Clinton's national security team, Al Gore has played a role in almost every critical foreign policy decision of the past six years." it's enough to make a grown man shudder. i believe that tomorrow ("a16") is the big day. by the way, am in the only one positively *giddy* in anticipation of the new minus 5 record? - --LET THE WAR AGAINST MUSIC BEGIN has *got* to be the greatest album title ever devised. i defy anyone to "posit" its superior. - --the first two albums kicked major ass. - --robyn's got a spoken-word piece. you know, i can already imagine precisely what his voice will sound like, but i'm awfully anxious to hear the exact words. The couple later divorced, unfortunately, but it was still a sweet little moment. My friend Ellen is getting married in 3 weeks. She has no idea what music to play at her wedding. I told her I'd ask the Feglist: what cool songs would YOU play at your wedding? Any ideas? Any and all suggestions welcome. Email me in private, please. Thanks! Christopher Gross: >Pure speculation -- since Bush has few established views and absolutely no >accomplishments to his credit, we have no way of knowing what kind of >president he would be. Chris has hit the bullseye. Bush is a weak governor (49th of 50) dealing with a state legislature that is evenly divided. He has only two executive powers - veto and appointments. He can do nothing in Texas if the Democrats do not agree. He got elected (in a Republican state) because his name is Bush and he's not a troglodyte aggie idiot like the previous Republican candidate, who bragged about how he and his pals got "serviced" at a Mexican whorehouse. Bush has never had an actual idea in his life. If elected, he will make policy by choosing from whatever proposals are put forward by his staff. He will bring some people from Texas, but the rest will be the usual suspects from the various Republican thinktanks, although of a newer generation than those of his daddy's administration. Also ask yourself this - do you want a Supreme Court that is a good bit more right wing than the one we have now, and do you think Bush will say no to whatever bullshit those evil bastards Dick Armey and Tom DeLay can get passed in the House? More than willing to vote for the lesser of evils (although in Texas that may be Libertarians and Greens) - Steve Oh yeah, that great victory Bush had in the last election - the turnout was 26% and the Democrats didn't field or fund a viable candidate. __________ Iąd sit down and meditate but my ass is on fire. - Bill Nelson ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Apr 2000 22:58:56 -0500 From: tanter Subject: RE: Elian.... >===== Original Message From Christopher Gross >Pure speculation -- since Bush has few established views and absolutely no >accomplishments to his credit, we have no way of knowing what kind of >president he would be. > That's not really true. We can see what kind of pres he'd be based on the kind of governor he is--he advocates killing people (death penalty), has few thoughts of his own (the lt. gov is actually the one in charge here), thinks kids shouldn't think their own thoughts (state testing virtually mandates that kids are taught to the test, are taught what they need to take the test but aren't taught much else), has little idea of what goes on in other places outside of Texas. We had a killer tornado here a couple of weeks ago in Ft. Worth. LOTS of damage. Rather than come see the damage, Bush was on the stump and just signed emergency legislation from his fancy pad wherever he was. That says more than most things. So what kind of pres will he be? Not a very good one, in my view. Marcy L.
