There were all sorts of problems with my issue not being delivered because of a postal strike in France. I'm not sure if they even got my money. Cathy arranged to have another copy sent to me after we waited long enough to decide that the original would never arrive. Cathy was kind enough to give me her permission to post the article to the list and to the www as well, as long as I let her proofread my translation first. She's out of town, but she ought to be back next week. I like the song on the CD, too! Do you collector types already have that version? PS: Stupid snow again today, for the fourth day out of five. We got about 15" in the first snowfall. It's a record, I think, in terms of the amount, but I found a post from me sent April 20 '97 where I was grumbling about the snow we got then. Stewart ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Apr 2000 12:02:10 EDT From: BLATZMAN@aol.com Subject: Satan,Movie Music, and Mark Mark pointed out that my criticism is not meant to piss people off, and it's true! I own more Robyn CD's than CD's of any other artist, and I've paid to see him more than I've paid to see any other artist, and he still has put on the best show I have ever seen (w/Egyptians at Great American Music Hall many years back) I just really really miss the Egyptians. Devil's Radio & DeChico Street would have been sooooo great. But alas, sucks to be me. And I also have Mark to thank for pointing out, a few years back on THIS list, that Stan Ridgway was selling an internet only CD. I went right out and snatched up a copy, and I'm so glad I did: It's his BEST!!!!! And I hope you agree with me Mark. As far as Film Music goes, I know this isn't a song, but my favorite moment of all time is the end of Empire Strikes Back when, for the FIRST TIME, the Han-Lea love theme is played by a full orchestra. They spend the whole movie developing the theme, and then at the end, the music tells the whole story of what is to come. It really is beautiful. 2nd place goes to Return of the Jedi when Darth Vader gets his mask pulled off and the Vader theme is plucked on a harp, I believe. Anyway, the net effect is to make it bright and warm, and it is just incredible writing and I'm sure 95% of the people on this list already knew that, but I hope someone will go back and listen to the score and see how it develops. John Williams can be so good. I was hoping Anakin would have the Vader theme, slightly varied but played on warmer instruments. But noooo. I was verrrrrrry disappointed, but then, was there really anything good about Phantom Menace??? Hoooowwwww Wooooood! I'll be opening for the legend himself this Friday the 7th & 8th at the Roxy in LA. I'm more than thrilled about it and so laundry seems to be the best way to calm the nerves. Meanwhile, Robyn Hitchcock and I are planning to join forces on the road come late June. Its looking like a California west coast run at the moment. Rather than a headline trade off we plan to let it all melt together a la "Grant-Lee Hitchcock" or "Phillips & Hitchcock." I'll let you know more as it gets closer to the dates. In the past Robyn and I have logged many an hour onstage together at Largo, not to mention an impromptu-gorrila performance at Seattle's Two Bells last September." Whee! That sounds like a blast & one-half! Of course, it's also got me kicking myself anew for missing the "gorilla" performance, circa last year's Bumbershoot. At any rate, west coast fegs, untie!
