Steve, Thank you for your erudite exposition on audiophile publications.

Unfortunately I don't share your expansive knowledge of such things and
it was, in fact, only with some difficulty that I was able to
distinguish said magazine from the in-flight barf-bag.

I merely report what I found in the hope that others might share my
delight and surprise at actually finding Robyn's name in print
...anywhere.

lyons.  all former soft boys, save lyons.  i think kim did finally play at 
one of the gigs, didn't he, aidan?

I've scarcely had dreams about *any* musicians, at least which I can
recall. I rarely dream about celebrities, in general. Seems like I once had
a dream that I was hanging out at rehearsal with Sonic Youth...that's the
only name which comes to mind. Oh yeah, and *this* is truly horrifying -- I
once dreamed that I was last-minute substituted to play drums with *Phish*.
Yeeeeeikes. What's more, I can't even play drums. Boy, was I screwed!

Eb, trying to remember whether "pie-hole" constitutes an oral or anal
reference, and not sure he wants to know the answer

I think you can pretty much rightly say this is so.  Cat Power opened
for Robyn.  That was just last year at Bumbershoot.

Man, that girl bugged the hell out of me.  I could go on for kilobytes.

Anyway, I didn't necessarily get the impression that they were mutual
fans in any way, just that the same radio station was promoting them.

They're getting a lot of hoo-ha on the Elephant 6 list at the moment.
I've only heard a couple of tracks by them, but they make me want to smack
the frontman's adolescent whiny ass and tell him to shut the fuck up.
However, I'm sure many people on this list react that way to NMH, so maybe
the comparison is apt!

The frontman really is adolescent... he's about 17.  I guess more fairly I
could say that he's very good for his age and has a lot of potential, but
I ain't hearing it yet.

Wish us luck! This is going to be a longer trip than that which
I made earlier this year, and Gnat and I (being dopplegangers)
stand a greater chance of killing each other in a roadside cat
fight than Jeme and I did (we were simply in danger of listening
to Pet Sounds too many times).

      Well, I think the term "opened for" connotes something different than 
what I'd say really happened.  It was more like a double-billing, IMO.  I'm 
sure a lot of Cat Power fans took off after she played or maybe just stuck 
around for curiosity's sake (in fact, I talked to one such person just last 
night!).  But I can also tell you that Jeme wasn't the only Feg in attendance 
who wasn't too keen on needing to sit through the Cat Power set in order to 
ensure good seating for Robyn's show.  I think Michael Wolfe and I both kinda 
almost enjoyed aspects of her set.  Or maybe that was Cynthia.  I'm pretty 
sure neither Eddie nor Viv were too thrilled.  Anyway, I found her stage 
presence *excrutiating*!  I seriously thought she was going to have a 
breakdown right there on stage.  Seriously.  REALLY!!  On the other hand, as 
a fan of Palace/Will Oldham, I sorta dig spare and mopey po-mo folk music.  I 
haven't heard Cat's new "Covers Album" yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if I 
enjoyed it . . . as long as there's no multimedia of her performing involved 
;-)

i heard snippets of it a few nights ago while cruising the used bins at a
local store and it sounded pretty not bad. kinda extra-special lo-fi mazzy
star-ish, if you can imagine that. caveat: i've never seen her perform or
heard her first record as the descriptions i read elsewhere didn't appeal
much.

      FYI, she has several other albums out.  1996's "What Would the 
Community Think?" grabbed me a little when it first came out.  The one that 
made the big(gish) splash was "Moon Pix" from a couple of years ago.  I 
didn't like that one as much.  Something harsh about it.  In maybe 1997, she 
also released a couple of CDs of pre-"What Would" material that's mostly her 
yowling to the accompaniment of untuned guitar.  It's merit is its 
primalness, I guess. 
      Thanks, Woj, for the little review of the new one.  Sounds like it has 
potential.  Hope ya feel better soon! :-)

tribute site" (not its official name, but i suppose i could be enticed to 
"make it so") in what seems (to him, eb) like ages.

so here's the plan.  send me your "personal testimonies" of eb (don't try to 
pretend you don't have an opinion about eb; or, that you do, but don't want 
it heard), and i'll add 'em to the site.  easy as that!  no fuss, no muss.  
while everybody is welcome to play; hal, ben, danielle, nick, ken sabatini, 
and commander lang (as well as  any other "perennial eb-bashers" i may be 
overlooking) are especially encouraged to participate.  yay!

to discourage apathy, all participants will have their names thrown into a 
"hopper", one of whose will be drawn at random.  the winning name receives 
14 spankings, to be administered by eb himself, ABSOLUTELY FREE OF CHARGE 
(or an 8X10 "glossy" of eb, in the "act" of getting stung by a "live" bee -- 
whichever you prefer).  unfortunatley, marc holden, having already "scored" 
a picture of eb at an earlier date, is ineligible (but may still feel free 
to send along his "testimony").
