The Frogs was the very first wesley willis song i ever heard, featured on that mtv show hosted by the little kid. "pipsqueak tv", was it called? something like that. but see, i'd no idea there was a *band* called "the frogs" (nor, of course, that wesley frequently penned songs about the bands he'd seen). *and*, it wasn't one of his solo keyboard numbers, it was full-on wesley willis fiasco. so you can imagine my enchantment seeing this 350 pound black man with the don king-esque hairstyle, fronting a heavy metal band, and screaming out "the frogs! the frogs! the frogs! the frogs!" for all he was worth! speaking of wesley, he was in town last night. he was sitting there manning the merch. table before the show, and asked the guy in front of me in line, "do you like that song called Tree My Ass?" the guy said that yes he did, and asked if wesley'd be playing it tonight? wesley said he would, but he didn't. the opening band comes out: "we're called raft of dead monkeys, and this song is called Ramrod The Wizard." turned out to be a very good band, excepting i didn't care for the vocals too much. the bassist, who was also more less the lead singer, was this very nerdy-looking guy -- except that he had a total badassical attitude (and a pretty incredible vertical leap). quite an interesting contrast. between every song, he'd utter a sentence, the only word of which you could really make out was "fuck". and the bandmembers took it in turns to introduce each song, but he introduced Two Year Lease With An Option To Fuck. and he kept spitting on the stage, and even one time shot a big loogie right out into the seating bowl. anyhow, at one point during the last song, the bassist and the two guitarists turned around to face the drummer, and set into a groove. two guys who looked for all the world like event staff came out and one kind of whispered in one of the guitarist's ear. i just figured he was telling the band to hurry up and vacate. instead, they turned around and proceeded to striptease right down to their unmentionables. i assume they were professionals, as they had some fairly impressive moves. In this dream, I was in a small used record store, and their selection of Robyn lps was confined to a milk-crate of 12" singles, all fifty of which were a single of The Rain (never to my knowledge released as a single). It had a really cool cover, and on the back, an extremely flattering photo of Robyn in a car, looking over his shoulder, with long wet hair (presumably from 'the rain'). I asked the guy why he had so many of these and nothing else. I think he said he got them at a flea market. They were priced $2 a piece. That is all.
