It would almost seem like he'll slip *something* like that in; the extremely poppy Goodbye seems like a pretty weird choice -- I would've expected something more like Another Girl or You Won't See Me (which he did on one or two occasions with the Dear Janes on the '97 tour); or since he seems to be in a sort of romantic mood these days(I Feel Beautiful), maybe even Michelle (or maybe that'd be too sappy)? RH is certainly a Beatles fan, and a Lennon fan in particular (lots of Lennon covers at the Largo shows), but I don't remember ever noticing him do much in the way of McCartney covers -- does anyone remember any? The point of the McC tribute seems to be non-Beatle material only (based on the choices of the other artists involved.) I like "Goodbye"! I have a boot of the original Macca demo and it's quite nice. However, I wish RH would've done "Suicide" or "Cage" instead if he wanted to choose an obscure, unreleased one. Or, maybe the B-side "Big Boys Bickering" (the only time Macca has used the word 'fuck' in a lyric!) /hal ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Feb 2000 13:46:36 -0500 From: Ken Ostrander Subject: Re: overheard at work >"*'moses'*? what kind of person would name their parrot 'moses'?" > >i kept my damned mouth shut, but was thinking that it was a great name for a >parrot! moreover, i wish more people would name their fuckin' *kids* >"moses"!!! A burglar got into a house one night. Shining his flashlight on the floor in the dark, he heard a voice saying, "Jesus is watching you." He looked around nervously, shook his head, and kept looking for valuables. He again heard, "Jesus is watching you." This time, he shone his light all over, and it rested on a parrot. He asked, "Did you say that?" The parrot admitted that he had. "I'm just trying to warn you, is all." The burglar said, "Warn me, huh? Who are you? What's your name?" "Moses." "Well, what kind of stupid people would name a parrot 'Moses'?" The bird answered, "I don't know; I guess the same folks who would name a Rottweiler 'Jesus.'" ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Feb 2000 11:29:25 -0800 (PST) From: John Barrington Jones Subject: Sexual preference Anyone know who sings "Johnny Are You Queer?" Thornton" Subject: Largo (2/26) & "A Star for Bram" So, I fiiiiiinally had the Largo experience Saturday night. It was a terrific show - well worth the drive, if just for Robyn's psychedelic go-go dancing during the Beatles covers. I never knew "Only a Northern Song" could rawk that hard. I'm still a-quivering. ;) "Hey Bulldog" got one frat boy in the audience so excited that he screamed out "You FUCKING RULE!!!" at Hitchcock as he left the stage... which confused Robyn a tad - he actually paused, turned back around as if to go back on-stage, but then turned around again and headed to the back. He did come back a few minutes for his "first ever" encore at Largo, but I don't know if that comment motivated it at all. Hitchcock was a lot looser Saturday than he was at the two shows I saw from the "Jewels" tour. There was a lot of between song banter, and a few typical Robyn mental meanderings. I have no idea whether or not to believe his assertion that the "Dwight" mentioned in "Trilobite" refers to Elton John. They were selling copies the "phantom album," "A Star for Bram," at the concert, so I picked myself up a copy (well, Chris Franz did the actual buying so a few of us Fegs could get the bulk $10 rate). The "dub" version of "Antwoman" is pretty worthless, but otherwise it's a great little collection of outtakes. For some odd reason, there are two pictures of Robyn in the booklet with two different Danelectro Long-Horn basses. - --Jason "don't let the Hollywood sign hit you on the ass on the way out" Thornton "Only the few know the sweetness of the twisted apples." - Sherwood Anderson ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Feb 2000 12:33:58 -0800 (PST) From: Capuchin Subject: Re: Sexual preference On Mon, 28 Feb 2000, Jason R. Since this release isn't important, MGM is probably allowing sales as soon as stores get it on stock. Perhaps someone with a copy could say whether the film was modified or simply originally filmed in 1.33:1. As I've said, it's completely illogical to pan and scan it since the target audience consists of Robyn fans and Demme fans. Oh well. I wrote MGM requesting original technical specs and urging a widescreen release months ago, but received no reply. The only features are a "Collectible Booklet" and a dolby surround track- hopefully 5.1, but there's no more information. There will also be Spanish and French subtitle options, if anyone cares. Good to see that MGM does not care a bit for this film. I guess we're lucky for it to be released at all. Of course, MGM is a shitty DVD company who can't properly release anything. Believe me, we'd all be better off if New Line had distributed this film. I guess I'm done complaining now. If anyone knows the original aspect ratio of the film or has the DVD and can report whether it's been "modified from its original version," Please let me know. I always like Robyn's voice double tracked. I wish I liked you- sounds like a classic from Invisible Hitchcock to me, but I prefer the gentler live version from 11-1-99 NYC. Green Boy and Philosopher's Stone Excellent! Nietzsche's Way is mind blowing, the drum's make it sound like an old Lennon song. Ant Woman dub, well, I'm glad it's on there, but...it's just ok, nothing too special. Adoration of the City is a great piece of work. The rest is great too.
