Well, Slovenly made what I think are the best albums ever released by SST. Well, some of the best -- I can't ignore the Minutemen. I'd probably travel across the country to see Slovenly play (but the band which grew out of them, Overhead, isn't too good. Blah.) What glorious geek guitar rock Slovenly made. Universal Congress Of has always been worthwhile, too. And hasn't there been some sort of Saint Vitus resurgence lately? Weird. Seriously, I can imagine a Black Flag reunion tour. Just a matter of time. Throw in the DKs and the Circle Jerks and it'll be Punkrawkapalooza 2001. ('twas not a "tour"-type arrangement. 'twas bumbershoot '88. and camper van beethoven was only playing in that "slot" because devo had "cancelled".) funny thing about it, the guy what dragged me to the gig was all breathless after: "wasn't robyn great?!" though i'd enjoyed the egyptians well enough, i was fairly knocked out by the campers (who, at some point during the gig had *completely* won me over by breaking into Kashmir --then and now my second all-time favorite song-- for a minute or so), and enthused, "but, that band [referring to the campers, not the egyptians] fucking *thumped*!" but that's not the funny thing. the funny thing is, after that *i* went out and bought up a bunch of robyn hitchcock rekkids, and *he* went out and bought up a bunch of camper van beethoven rekkids. i can *totally* see hugh grant uttering that line in some movie about...you know, whatever hugh grant movies are about; at a high-falutin' "dinner/dance"-type of arrangement. that really would explain a lot. i say we find whoever was responsible for this bastardisation, and beat the holy living shit out of them. whoa! the broncos aren't your least-favorite team? as a seahawk fan, even though the raiders had beaten the holy living shit out of them in the '83 afc champeenship game, i always found it difficult to despise the raiders. never had that problem with the broncos, though! in point of fact, i quite liked the raiders, because i thought it was so cool that they were perenially the most-penalised team in the nfl, yet still managed to win three superbowls. it was almost like, crime *does* pay, y'know? plus, who could not love ray guy? in addition to which, how fuckin' cool did madden look in his coaching days? (well, now that i think about it, patera looked pretty cool, too. as, of course, did coryell; who always looked as though he either a.)had just finished pooping his pants, b.)was in the process of pooping his pants, or c.)was just getting ready to poop his pants.) damn! the afc west had some pretty fucking cool-looking coaches!
