I once owned, but have somehow, at some unknown point, ceased to own a CD-single (EP, whatever) of "Balloon Man." As I recall, it had "Globe of Frogs (electric version)" and "The Ghost Ship" on it as well. Glen Uber, Capuchin, and I are working on re-vamping and updating the Globe of Fegs page, and I was thinking that I'd really like to use the cover art of that CD single in the logo of the new Fegmap page. As I recall, it had a picture of Robyn sort of cradling a spherical object of some kind between his hands. I was thinking that with a little bit of Photoshop magic, said spherical object could become an actual globe (that is, the kind with oceans and continents and such on it). I'm hoping there's someone out there who has this, and would be willing to scan in the cover art (the higher the resolution, the better) and send it my way?? Thanks in advance! I spent an enjoyable evening reading the lyrics aloud to a friend while we laughed hysterically, then traded the album in for a used copy of "Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)." So this morning on my radio show, I decided to give Scott Miller another chance, and played tracks from "Lolita Nation" and "Slouching Towards Liverpool." To my surprise, they were great! They weren't anything like what I remembered of "Interbabe Concern." So my question is: is "Concern" really different from Miller's other stuff, or was I on crack a few years ago? Actually, maybe I'm on crack now. I'm starting to like Of Montreal... n. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 Dec 1999 11:40:11 -0500 (EST) From: Aaron Mandel Subject: Re: Loud Family confusion On Sun, 5 Dec 1999, Natalie Jacobs wrote: > So this morning on my radio show, I decided to give Scott Miller > another chance, and played tracks from "Lolita Nation" and "Slouching > Towards Liverpool." So my > question is: is "Concern" really different from Miller's other stuff, > or was I on crack a few years ago? that depends what songs you played, but no, it's not really that different. in particular, Lolita Nation is thought of as the sister to Interbabe Concern -- it has the smoother 80s production and where it has serious lyrical flaws they're of a different type, but they're both sprawling and heavy on the funny noises. but geez, you spent all evening laughing at Miller's lyrics and then traded it in for Taking Tiger Mountain? i like Eno's records, but, uh, that's sort of ironic. well, there WAS the line "i shouldn't count on having air around me just because i breathe". the whole middle third of Interbabe Concern could probably be taken out without hurting it too much, though i've learned to appreciate it. i would try Plants And Birds And Rocks And Things next, or if you can find it, Game Theory's Real Nighttime. those are just my personal preferences, though, since LN and IBC aren't opposing poles of Millerism to guide you through the night. a ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 Dec 1999 11:17:35 -0600 From: steve Subject: Re: Loud Family confusion Natalie Jacobs: >So this morning on my radio show, I decided to give Scott Miller another >chance, and played tracks from "Lolita Nation" and "Slouching Towards >Liverpool." It is a bit of a departure from previous Loud Family albums, but maybe only in degree. But even hardened Miller vets may have required *several* listens to grok what was going on. However, the connections to previous albums are obvious if you've had enough exposure to pick them up. I think the LoudFans list ranks it as the number two fave, just after Lolita Nation. Plants and Birds and Rocks and Things would probably be the best place to start listening to The Loud Family, and listening to The Loud Family is something that everybody should do. Once you've done that, you'll want to start haunting the used bins to pick up all the Game Theory albums, especially Lolita Nation. - - Steve _______________ We're all Jesus, Buddha, and the Wizard of Oz! - Andy Partridge ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 Dec 1999 15:29:51 -0500 From: The Great Quail Subject: Re: Anyone have the "Balloon Man" CD-single? >I once owned, but have somehow, at some unknown point, ceased to own >a CD-single (EP, whatever) of "Balloon Man." I have a copy of the CD-single, and yes, Robyn is in fact holding a globe. The image is one of my least favorites though, as Robyn looks like a demented Frat boy. (Bad haircut.) I can't defend my behavior because I don't remember the lyrics I was laughing about (I do recall getting a big kick out of "Sodium Laureth Sulfate"), but in no way, shape, or form do I consider Eno's lyrics to be laughable. Or bad. He doesn't even consider his lyrics important - why should I laugh at them? n. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 05 Dec 1999 13:58:51 PST From: "Anal Oil Leakage" Subject: Passing Souls Oh, the young girls look like salad And the old men look like rain And it's pouring down inside of them And rustin' up their chains And the winters look like summer And the sky is full of holes Through the windows of eternity You can glimps the passing souls And the party's over And the songs are playin' themselves I'm going home And my boots are filled with water And my head is filled with wine And desire is caressing me 'cause she said that she'd be mine As she dances on the table She's just out of my reach Oh, my fingers pass right through her And my fingers do the siege But the party's over And the songs are singin' themselves And, I'm going home All the young girls look like ravens As they flock around the pool And they peck at their reflections In the shadows, old men drool I have loved you from a distance I have loved you from up close I have loved you less than nobody I have loved you more than most And the party's over And the song is sinin' itself The party's over And the song is sinin' itself I'm goin' home, yeah I'm goin' home okay, the song's probably actually called either The Party's Over, or I'm Going Home. but i *hope* it's called Passing Souls, 'cause that'd be such a wonderful title. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 05 Dec 1999 14:10:12 PST From: "Anal Oil Leakage" Subject: keegan up the kornhole so on one of the early nights of the tour, i snagged a bunch of keegan merch., figuring i could pass it along to anybody who'd failed or been unable to snap it up during the tour. then something very cool happened. after gathering it all up, i passed by tim on my way out of the hall, and mentioned that the lounge oughta play Superkeen. he ignored that request, but commented on the stack. i told him what i was up to, and he answered, "well done". i said thanks, and then he asked if i'd got all the homer stuff, to which i replied no, i hadn't. i then mentioned the acoustic cd, and he told me he had a few with him, if i was interested in buying them.
