Oh, uh, sure. It was actually in my appointment book. "November 28, 1999: Say 'twat' on radio show." I have said "prick" and "asshole" on my show, and played a few "forbidden words" by accident, though I have never actually uttered said words myself. Although a certain guest on my show did so, despite being told not to. >By the way, Gnat kissed a bunch of the other guys too, for whatever >that's worth. Despite my reputation as the official Elephant 6 floozy, I only kissed one of the Olivias, namely Will "Elephant Sexy" Hart. I even managed to resist the charms of John Fernandes, despite Eddie's claims that "the girls really go for him." Scott Spillane is not all that ugly close up. Did I just say that? re. band names: A friend of mine met Jaime Hernandez (of "Love and Rockets" the-comic- not-the-band fame) and asked him for a band name. Jaime told my friend to go away and come back in half an hour. My friend did so, and the band name Jaime came up with was "Love Bucket." It was never used. I always wanted to call a band Hard Blue Rayhead (an alternate title for "The Big Express"). But nobody ever wanted to go along with me. Viv and I are going to start a band called Slurry, which may be overshadowed by our Elvis Costello cover band, Lipstick Vogue. n., who can play "Beyond Belief" on the guitar! p.s. I really wanted to go along with "Buy Nothing Day," but unfortunately I only found out about it after I was out of food. Does buying food count? Probably. p.p.s. Road trip to see Randi? Hmmm... tempting. If we're all still alive after the millenium, of course. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Nov 1999 13:37:29 EST From: DDerosa5@aol.com Subject: band names... All I have to offer to this thread was my high school experience--I was in a terrible covers band, with me writing original songs that we couldn't remember the chords to when we played live, so we'd substitute Ramones or B52s songs. Anyway, it was a catholic school, so the key to naming ourselves was to amuse our friends and piss off the priests when we played in the gym. At first we were Axe of the Apostles (it had a really cool logo, with blood and gore, looked like Iron Maiden), but as we got more punk and got tired of people mishearing the first word, we changed it to Mass Confusion, which pissed off a nun so much that she had our practice space taken away. So, that worked... Only other band I've ever been in was, uh, experimental, in college. Furthering Mass Confusion, we named ourselves "Amok Time", after the Star Trek episode. It's also what our practices sounded like. All of these names are currently available, if you're dumb enough to actually try it. dave PS. My favorite comment riding around the tree-lighting ceremony downtown with my Buy Nothing banner? An idiot woman said earnestly "That's not very 90s!" When I pointed out that the 90s were almost over, and that Buy Nothing was the future, she looked very concerned and scuttled away. And I didn't use any difficult words, like "harbinger" or "paradigm".... ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Nov 1999 14:09:05 -0500 (EST) From: dmw Subject: inappropriate band names i wanted to share my favorite vastly misleading name: a pretty, well-behaved, chimey indie pop act -- vaguely go-betweensy, with the requisite indie pop male/female vocal contrast -- (former teenbeat recording artist)...called, of all things, "vomit launch." - -- d. n.p. king fly _aquamarine scene_ (best unsolicited disc of the month? probably, though i see spots was pretty nice, too) - - oh no, you've just read mail from doug = dmw@radix.net - get yr pathos - - www.pathetic-caverns.com -- books, flicks, tunes, etc. = reviews - - www.fecklessbeast.com -- angst, guilt, fear, betrayal! = guitar pop ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Nov 1999 14:40:39 -0800 From: Joel Mullins Subject: Chris Gaines Garth Brooks has gone too far. What the hell is this crap anyway? VH1 is actually airing a Behind the Music about Chris Gaines, a character played by Garth Brooks. I mean, they're playing this whole documentary and the asshole doesn't even exist! It's all fake: the terrible car accident and coma, the house fire, and the sex addiction. I can't believe they're showing this. While I can understand your disbelief, as I share it, I would also like to point out that almost the same thing was done for the sequel to Austin Powers in the form of a "documentary" on Doctor Evil. Is that wrong as well? But if I hadn't already heard the Chris Gaines name, then I would have thought this "documentary" was real. I mean, everyone knows that Dr. Evil is a character and the point of the "documentary" was probably to make people laugh and promote the movie. But this Chris Gaines thing isn't funny. And I can't imagine that it would make a person want to buy a Garth Brooks album. It's not wrong. It's just stupid.
