My wife April is a huge fan of that band, so I'm quite interested in getting another copy of that show. If anybody out there would like to trade me for a copy, please contact me off list. But at least the episode of Star Trek: Voyager I recorded over it with wasn't so bad. ObRobynContent: My wife and I saw the Old 97's open up for Chris Isaac a coupla weeks ago. During their soundcheck, Rhett Miller, the Old 97's' singer and an avowed Uncle Bobby Fan, yelled "Yip yip yip yip yip" into the microphone, for a sibilance check, I imagine. Sadly, the band didn't break into "The Yip Song" afterwards. Oh well. The 38-year-old was with the show since its inception in 1997 and provided the voice for all of the show's female characters including Ms. Cartman, Wendy Testaburger, Stan's Mom, Kenny's Mom, Mayor McDaniels, Ms. Crabtree, Principal Victoria, and others. The show's creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, addressed the news in a statement that read, "Mary Kay was with us from the very beginning and helped make 'South Park' a success by sharing with us her amazing talent. We will miss her as an artist, a co-worker, and above all else a friend." During her time with "South Park," Bergman worked beside numerous musical guest stars, including Ozzy Osbourne, Joe Strummer, Elton John, The Cure's Robert Smith, and most recently Korn. Bergman's voice was also featured in this year's big screen "South Park" adaptation as well as "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace," "Deep Blue Sea," "The Iron Giant," "The Hunchback Of Notre Dame," and "Beauty And The Beast," among others. - -- Tina Johnson __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? The most obvious difference between cooking and dissecting flesh is the consumption. I've heard of several studies that have related vegetarianism to oral aggression. Underneath it all the vegetarian is angry, and being fearful of their anger, they transfer it onto meat, so they don't have to deal with wanting to kill and eat the person(s) at the root of the anger. I'm not saying that this applies to everyone who is a vegetarian. I was actually surprised at how many Chicago Fegs are veggies and the variety of reasons behind it. Well, I had a year of anatomy and 2 medical illustration courses. The anatomy was all live models, not dead ones. But the medical ilustration, while using a very few cadavers, took anything else we could get, which meant road kill if we found any fresh ones. And as a vegetarian for the last 25 years, I was amazed at my own response. I oohed and aahed over the color of lungs - a bright salmon color - and found nothing to make me squemish or hesitant and enjoyed drawing what I saw. I was, frankly, fascinated. I never wanted to eat the stuff and found an even stronger desire not to do so after seeing the insides. (But I've always wanted to journey to the far flung Isles of Langerham...) My vegetable friends hate my dedication however. Of course I am filled with anger. It's barely surpressed and sometimes bursts out at the oddest times. I liked Beulah quite a bit -- their months on the road have brought them together as a band. They sounded much stronger/tighter than when I saw them months ago, at Spaceland with Of Montreal and the Ladybug Transistor. And Miles of Beulah even told me he had been to the doctor *and* the dentist during the day -- he was not in good shape. Way to come through, Miles! However, Luna bored me silly. Little of note worth reporting about their performance, beyond that I was surprised they didn't play "Sweet Child O' Mine" when in the heart of Guns 'N Rosesland. I was also surprised at how packed the place was, especially considering this was the second of two shows. I've seen several weakly populated shows at the Troubadour which really depressed me (#1 example: the *dismal* turnout for the Chills a couple of years ago), but Luna was a different story. I guess *someone* must be still excited by the band, despite their deteriorating hipster status. Oh, and LJ: I did try to throw those panties onstage which you FedExed me. I was aiming for Dean as ordered, but unfortunately, I was 12-15 feet away from the stage and so they landed in the crowd, on the head of some introverted young gent with glasses and a mopey expression. I don't think I've ever heard him do this with the Egyptians before..at least I don't think he's played it in Portland. Fegs, correct me if I'm wrong. Robyn dropped down his vocals for this one to a bass pitch. I kind of missed the high pitched glory of this song, but his low pitch, combined with Tim's higher one, detracted not one iota of brillance from this song.
