Robyn hit the stage at 11:30 and played for 90 minutes. I haven't heard that much energy in his music (and of course it helped to have a full band behind him) for many years, probably since 5/92 when he played the Keswick Theater in Glenside, PA in his last appearance with the Egyptians. Last night was fantastic! Couple of Soft Boys tunes and smattering of tunes from many different releases except unfortunately, nothing from his first two solo releases. Next time. And was that Kimberly Rew playing with Robyn or just some other Kimberly? I am honestly not sure, however, by the way this Kimberly played guitar and seemed especially pleased during the two Soft Boys songs, I was guessing that it was K. Rew. And many people were just watching Kimberly play - very cool. BTW, the two songs were Kingdom of Love and Queen of Eyes. Anyone else reading at the show? This Year's Model, Armed Forces and My Aim is True are all essential. As are Get Happy!!, Spike, Blood & Chocolate and King of America. As are Trust, Punch the Clock and Brutal Youth. As are.... Personally, I'd probably recommend This Year's Model or My Aim is True next, over Armed Forces. But if your tastes favor a stress on arrangements and "production" (Radiohead, hello! ;)), you might want Armed Forces instead. Spike and Punch the Clock are also highly "produced." This Year's Model and My Aim is True are lean 'n' mean, by contrast. But that's why the punks/New Wavers gave him props, at the time. Whaddya think? definitely a good choice. _king of america_, _get happy!!_, or _this year's model_ would be good first choices too (KOA is more folk-country rockish thought -- in the good way). most people seem to love _my aim is true_, though i personally find it a bit flat at points, not so much because of the songs, but because of the playing (by Clover). as for the post-ryko stuff, i love _spike_, _brutal youth_ is pretty good, and the rest of the warners stuff is at least interesting if not always great, except _kojak variety_ which was a better idea than it was a record. by far. ===== "America's greatest natural resource, still, to this day, is the moron" --Martin Mull __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? It very much looked like happening at one point- I even e'd her about the best ways to get here, some websites to get cheap tickets, all sorts of stuff like that. It looks now like she may not be well enough for this to happen :(. Rand, if you're reading, you know you're always welcome to stay with us, Robyn show or no. I'm sure I speak for manyFeg also when I say that there are probably damn few Feg homes that wouldn't jump at the chance to welcome you. 3. People who are not particularly interested in the environment and/or helping people out with their websites should stop reading now. I'm posting about this cause I think there are like-minded Fegs who might be interested. If yer not, scroll ahead or hit delete now, whichever applies :). Doug used to get really impatient when I'd spend a lot of time studying the labels on every dern thing in the store in an effort to avoid certain chemicals as well as products that were animal-tested. If you have done this at all you know it can take hours and gets frustrating really fast. So I decided to do some pre-shopping on the web, looking at corporate websites and reading up on ingredients and animal testing policies, so that I'd be able to cut down on time spent in the store. Along the way I made some vedddddy interesting discoveries- I thought I was informed about this stuff, but I was very wrong, there's a LOT to know, hours and hours worth. I found myself wishing there was a website where I could find all this info together in one place. Since I didn't find one that covered environmental, health, AND animal-testing/product angles, I thought it was high time somebody made one. There are lots of people who might want this information who haven't got the time or inclination to do all the work necessary to find it. I figured I'd divide it thusly: 1. A list of said nasty commonly-used chemicals and why you might want to avoid them, with links to websites that contain studies and such concerning these. 2. A list of cosmetics, toiletries, and household cleaners that are made without these nasty chemicals. A sub-list of these which do not contain any animal products (a lot of all-natural products don't, but a few may have lanolin, honey, beeswax, &c.). Links to these companies' websites if they got 'em, also phone and snail, and stores where you can get them, if I have that info. Possibly divided by price range and recyclability of packaging as well, if I'm feeling extra-energetic :). 3. A factual explanation of why I feel the Body Shop and some other "feel good" companies are not much better than their counterparts at Proctor & Gamble, et al., and some of the common wool-pulling devices cosmetic companies in particular use to hoodwink people. 4. Product reviews. 2 and 4 are where I may need some help. I already know about higher-profile companies like Aubrey's Organics and Tom's of Maine. Where I could use help is in locating very small companies, the kind that perhaps can't afford a web presence or national distribution, ones that only distribute pretty much in the area they're located. If you know about any such, I'd love to get their information on the page. Also, I have not used every single one of the products I've read about so far, obviously. So if you've used a really good all-natural bathroom cleaner, toothpaste, pet shampoo, what have you, that you'd recommend, I'd really love that kind of input. I've found that there are plenty of people who are willing to go a little greener but can't believe these products could work as well as what they use now. Help me prove them wrong :). Please send info, reviews, and comments privately as I think I've already taken up too much list time and space :). Thanks in advance. Anyone else ever notice that >this song sounds a little out of place on IODOT, and it would have been >better suited to one of the other albums? > Actually, a couple of weeks ago, I was discussing this with Dolph. The more I listen to IODOT, the more it seems that almost every song has some sort of root in "Nocturne". It's really apparent in songs like "Cathedral" and "Flavour of Night", I'm sure I'm not the first to notice it. Of the songs that don't, two of them are acapella (or close: UPT and FGAB), so they still seem to fit. But "Pretty Girl" doesn't seem to have that root...or it's so fast and in such a different key that my pathetically-trained musical ability can't seem to pick it out. So I would agree with you, that it does seem a little out of place on IODOT...for that reason, if for no other.
