For some reason, I imagine TV snow when I hear that, and that the >second time Robyn sings "the love you show," it's actually a TV show called >"The Love You Show." > I guess I'm just kind of throwing this out there. I don't know how it >fits in with the rest of the song. Maybe it's just a scene. But it's a >scene that I like -- a couple being too preoccupied with each other to care >about the static on the TV (or anything else). Any contrary thoughts? All's I know is that the song slows noticably at that point, if only briefly. Does that bother anyone else as much as it bothers me? Certainly some of you musicians. It's even more noticable than the drag on the Beatles' "You Won't See Me" (which occurs appropriately enough on the line "I just can't go on"). - -rUss ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 06 Aug 1999 21:43:43 -0700 From: "Russ Reynolds" Subject: Re: fegmaniax-digest V8 #294 >I do really like it... but I can't figure out (within this schema or any >other) what that "turn up the glove you wear" line is all about. It must mean that somebody has hit a fly ball. - -rUss ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Aug 1999 00:27:48 -0700 (PDT) From: Jeff Dwarf Subject: Young Ones Was it the Young Ones that they used to show before 120 Minutes on MTV back in the late 80's? i remember thinking that it was pretty funny, but the only gag i remember at all was when they were being attacked by a vampire, someone called out for a stake, and some hippy-ish guy ran to the fridge, and came back yelling "all we've got is a vegetarian sausage." but maybe that was something else altogether..... _____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? It's 5 bucks to get in. We LOVE Robyn Hitchcock very much and we're going to play at least one of his songs on Sunday (Railway Shoes, 52 Stations, or maybe something from "I Often Dream of Trains"-- we aren't sure yet). If anyone's in the NY area, you should definitelly come. For more info, call CB's Gallery 212-677-0455, and visit our web site at http://recoil.simplenet.com/thesorryjar/ Anna (lead singer, the sorry jar) PS-- We're also going to be performing live on the web station, Radio Boston on Wednesday, August 11th @ 3 PM E.S.T. The URL is www.radioboston.com. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 09 Aug 1999 22:04:28 +0930 From: dlang Subject: viv stanshall and the bonzos Just thought I'd let the old farts on the list know about this addition to my Archive site. Ive transcribed most of one of the last TV performances that the late great Viv Stanshall ever gave and included about 10 stills from the video to boot. Its a sort of potted autobiography and explains a lot about why Viv was so tormented and frustrated. Ive also posted about 12 stills of two classic Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band performances as well- go here to see em. http://users.senet.com.au/~tortoise/index.html I know I've been keeping a very low profile recently, trying to finsh off website stuff as I might not be around for a while , going for an op to cure my reflux this Tuesday , if all goes well then I'll be back in a week and if I make it through the op then as I recuperate I just might have some time to post up some more feg stuff - dreams , etc. I'm almost a week behind in my reading of the list, but just boggled at the idea of Eb having countless courteous conversations with his friends - - so what happens to your style when you start to post ? . - -Sorry Eb, couldnt resist that one - only kidding buddy- honest !!!!! . Sorry to see Mahlathini died, total bummer , that was a truly great band and a great frontman. BTW , theres no radio broadcast of Robyn's Aussie tour - they just ignored his presence in Oz. feg x. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Aug 1999 19:03:50 -0500 From: Zelda Pinwheel Subject: 33 Degrees in-store Hello Fegz! Here's the set list as far as I can recall: mexican god beautiful girl viva sea-tac i often dream of trains peggy sue sleeping with your devil mask let it be me foggy mountain breakdown gene hackman queen of eyes raymond chandler evening The small store was packed, and Robyn decided to forgo the public address system, so it was kinda like having him play in your living room. He was dressed more casually than I've every seen, in loose tan trousers and a blue t-shirt. After he played "Peggy Sue" he remarked that he would never play that for a paying audience, but often played it for himself. Other topics included the revelation that he was a "chlorophyll based life-form" and the fact that there were very few towels on this tour. Well...I have to go to the gig now. I'll report back later. xoxox zelda ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V8 #295 *******************************
