I liked MT for his genre about the best. It seemed like he had a really good perspective on life and a sense of humor about things. No. I didn't know the guy, and he might be different in personal life. About the four semitone rundown, that was immortalized as the entire soundtrack for Clutch Cargo and other cartoo-dramas of the sixties. music: ||:da-na-na-na:|| (almost infinite repeat) man: "Look out, Clutch!" boy: "His boat is heading for the waterfall." man: "Start the motor, Clutch!" boy: "Do something, Clutch!" girl on crumbling rock at the precipice: "Help!" meanwhile Clutch is thinking, "You dumb bastards. The show is not named after you, and I'm not currently in contract negotiations. This means that even our drug-addled animators won't kill me off. I'm perfectly aware that things look bleak right now, but your sense of the obvious in observation reminds me how badly I want to kick your asses when I get out of here for wasting my time these past seasons." The motor sputters to a start, clutch roars to the edge of the waterfall and grabs the girl and throws her into the boat, while steering the boat admirably. The music stops and everybody jumps up and down and Clutch and the girl reach the shore, where he pushes the man and the boy into the water for being so stupid and irritating. And as they fall, screaming, hundreds of feet down the falls, Clutch asks the girl if she wants to make a little extra money on the side. This is, of course, lifted from the director's cut. I remember there was some confusion on this list about whether, in Serbia, the ramboullet accord would've given us (NATO) freedom to roam the country. Robert Fisk of the Independent has written of the new "peace" accord: According to the text of the Kosovo peace agreement available in Belgrade, Slobodan Milosevic has succeeded in erasing a key element of the Paris peace agreement: a referendum on the future of the province in three years' time that might have allowed Kosovo Albanians to demand independence. And one of Mr Milosevic's ministers was quick to seize on another apparent departure from the March accord: the disappearance of an annex to the Paris agreement, which would have allowed Nato troops free access to all of Yugoslavia. Nato, it appears, will have to move in out of Kosovo only through the narrow roads of Macedonia and Albania. And a close scrutiny of the text suggests that if Serbia has been humiliated - - its army and police in Kosovo reduced to a mere skeleton, the province controlled by an army of foreigners - Belgrade's guerrilla enemies in the KLA will face emasculation. "Demilitarised" by Nato, the KLA's declared intention of achieving independence will be opposed by its Western protectors. And if Serbia's MPs are to be believed, Yugoslavia's frontiers are now regarded as "inviolable" by the Nato powers. So much for Kosovo's independence. Will the KLA accept this - or will it turn against Nato? _______ SOrry to reopen old war wounds, but there's been nothing on the list for days. I was at some friends' house drinking a few beers and enjoying myself. The whole previous week I'd been listening to almost nothing but Spiritualized's Royal Albert Hall album and I was itching to throw it in my friend's stereo. And when they pulled out the weed, I figured it was time to do exactly that. So, we got really stoned and put the album on at an absolutely insane volume and I sat right in front of the stereo and listened. What I then experienced was the most incredible trip of my life, pure ecstasy. I couldn't get my eyes open, I couldn't get the smile off my face, and I was completely unaware that anything else existed in the world. There were several instances where I almost cried. It was just the most amazing feeling. Of course, I am aware that the grass helped out a little bit. But their music is a stronger drug than anything I was on. Anyway, those of you who have still not got this album are really missing out. It's definitely the best live album I've ever heard, if not the best music I've ever heard. (though still not as good as Baron Munchausen.) at any rate, no worse than a hundred other big-budget special effects action flicks. however, there is a very real problem, i think, in its relation to the other trilogy. the story is such a blatant ripoff of episode iv, it's difficult to imagine lucas could even put it out there with a straight face (with that same proviso: it was made for 12-year-olds, most of whom have probably never seen the other movies.) also, there are serious continuity problems, it seems to me. i mean, it's great that *lucas* has greater technology at his disposal, but when the societies *in the movie*, which supposedly takes place 30 years before, have obviously greater technology than the *same* societies in the trilogy, well, that just ain't right. also, if it's only thirty years earlier, how could obi-wan be about 80 in episode iv, and about 25 in episode i? same with palpateen (sp? why isn't he listed in the movie's imdb record?), who's, like, 150 in episode iv, and 45ish in episode i. and jesus christ, jake lloyd is a horrible actor! (of course, it doesn't help that he's given such lame lines...) anyway, as i predicted in this very forum, it's already proving that it's not going to have legs. in fact, i wouldn't be at all surprised to see The Spy Who Shagged Me knock it out of the top spot next weekend. and no way in hell is it going to make a run at Titanic. and now these idiot theaters are going to be stuck with it clogging up their screens for the next nine weeks! ha! ha! dude, you can't just say something like that and let it drop! what happened, man! if it was just courtney getting nekkid, you know, she does that at *all* of their shows. _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Well, I just assumed that those beautiful cities and such were going to be destroyed in the next two movies. But their music is a stronger drug than anything I was on. Funny you should describe this experience. I remember a similar experience: A friend and I were big Pink Floyd fans and were eagerly awaiting the Dark Side of the Moon release (oldster alert). He bought it the day it came out and came to pick me up from High School. We went to his apartment (my parents thought he was a "nice college boy") where we did a couple of bong hits through iced wine. He had a great stereo and headphones for us both. We put on the 'phones and began the listen through. When Great Gig in the Sky came on, I distinctly remember losing touch with anything but that music. Then I knew I was floating in the air. It was a physical sensation. A music experience I have not had since. And it wasn't just the weed, I know that. Be Seeing You, - - c "Questions are a burden for others.
