Are any of you Fegs married--or for that matter very successful in relationships with the opposite sex? Spend 1 day with me & my husband, (or my parents, or my coworkers and their spouses, or our neighbors) and you will see VERY QUICKLY that men and women communicate differently, and for that matter, proccess thoughts in completely different ways. I for one was fascinated with Joel's assignment (and would like to read it when he gets it done--assuming he hasn't gotten discouraged by all the funk that's been flying here. I'm rooting for you, Joel!! I'd be glad to help if I can!!) Oh and Ross, thank you SO MUCH for bringing up the 2 things guys sing about most. :) The lady I have worked with for 2 years, 4 months and... 5 days... (Friday was my last day!! WOO HOO!) only listens to a country station ALL DAY at work, and I bet I could sing you just about any one of the songs they play, in spite of the fact that I would bring headphones & my own music to listen to. And wouldn't you know it, but nearly all the songs by male artists I heard had either "ramblin guy" or "I can't say I love you, so here's a little ditty" as their theme. Granted, there are some other themes in those songs, like "I'm a drunken fool who beats you, but I'm glad you stick around because you take me to church", but even that is not exactly a female tendency. (At least not in any other women I know :) Now I'm probably going to get several long rants about dissing country music, but ah well... "That's my story and I'm stickin' to it." ;) LSDiamond _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. On an interesting note, however, I was involved in such an experiment with a chat room approx. 2 years ago! Up until the end, it was nice just going and meeting new people. Then, when they got ready to shut it down, they told us, basically, "Thanks for being lab rats. We might do this again sometime." They re-opened the site a few months ago, and not many people show up there anymore. Coincidence? As the closest Feg to the theater, I'd like to propose a pre-show gathering that Saturday (May 8) at my place for anyone interested. I realize many Bay Area Fegs caught the film when it showed here a year ago, but for those who didn't (or those like me who can't get enough of it), it should be a good time. Email me off-list for details. In other news, a call to Flanagan at Largo failed to confirm the rumor of Robyn appearing on the 30th, but apparently he is working on getting him back sometime early next month. Don't know Mark Eitzen (so tell me about him!) but Patti and k.d. have their place in the stat distribution. For everly k.d. how many Whitney Houstons are there? We're talking trends, averages, general direction -- not universal imperative. Patti and k.d. are not mainstream artists, right? Face it, we're not a mainstream bunch here. I can still hazard a guess at what won't fly with the elevator-music crowd. They're in the majority, unless those guys with the briefcases have been hoodwinking the radio stations for years. I just finished watching a program on Discovery Channel where they quoted some study (no, the raw data were not made available) where people approached strangers of the opposite sex and said they were interested in mating with those people that same night. 75% of the men said yes, with a large proportion of the remainder offering apologetic excuses. 100% of the women said no. What a sexist show! I don't think their sample was that big; surely some proportion of females are randy enough to agree to that sort of thing and do regularly enough in real life. Anyway, does everybody here think that their findings were way off? Nobody is a slave to a trend, folks. That's why we like Robyn. PS: That music show with David Byrne is on right now. Biometrics alone make men and women different in more than just reproductive organs. It makes no sense to say men and women are the same except for biology, since biology (body and brain chemistry, for example) affect us so profoundly in terms of personality, behavior etc. Not to mention the big differences in how our brains are wired (weird). Not that we even really understand our brains yet. Essentially, there is a vas deferens between us (eep). I do admire your apparent desire to see men and women on equal footing, Je; that is commendable. But if IMO you're actually insulting women by saying that. Personally, I think they are more evolved than men. But I can't prove that. So basically I think we should say "vive la difference"! =b [1] i.e., men are, by nature, just damn ugly. (IMHO.) ps. if this stirs things up again, I'll just blame Ross, ok? I'm saying mean things about men to balance out that nasty misogyny of his. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Apr 1999 02:33:46 -0500 From: "JH3" Subject: Re: had to be said (or did it?)
