Does he have a pre or >post "M" history? Well, I found an M webpage. Apparently "Official Secrets Act" was the second album, and there was a third called "Famous Last Words" (also featuring Thomas Dolby), which for some inexplicable reason was not released until recently. The guy has an interesting history. He was art college buddies with Malcolm McLaren and actually turned down an opportunity to go into business with him and Miss V. Westwood at what is discreetly referred to by the bio writer as "their Chelsea store". He recorded demos with Camel (?????!) and released an album on Head records in 1972 as Robin Scott, backed by Mighty Baby. Notable for Adam and the Ants fans, he was the guy behind the Do-It label. He also (with Adrian Belew) co-produced a Ruichi Sakamoto album. Apparently for the past few years he's been doing the world music thang, and mainly is involved in producing African pop. A couple of years ago I had the good fortune to see Pat Fish and Max Eider (The Jazz Butcher and the first lead guitarist for "The Jazz Butcher" the band) play a little show at the 12-Bar in London. During the show, they played the early JB classic "Drink", whose studio version has a great trombone solo. Since neither Pat nor Max play the trombone (well, that's a guess, Pat plays a wide variety of instruments), they played the trombone solo with kazoos. It sounded great and was loads of fun. There is a BEST OF PAOLO CONTE CD on Elektra Nonesuch, which I don't have, but the selection seems pretty good. I think his best album is 900 (NOVECENTO), and if you buy the BEST OF, I don't think it overlaps 900 at all. Oh, the Jazz Butcher... *happysigh* Dolph np: um, 900, actually. I referred to Phil Barnes's Any Trouble page yesterday, and he certainly doesn't mention Brinsley being in the band in the six lineups (count 'em) below: Original Line-up Tom Jackson - Vocals Chris Parks - Guitar, BVs Clive Gregson - Bass, BVs Phil Davies - Guitar, BVs Mel Harley - Drums 2) Tom Jackson - Vocals, BVs Clive Gregson - Guitar, Vocals, BVs Chris Parks - Guitar, BVs Mel Harley - Drums Phil Barnes - Bass, BVs 3) Clive Gregson - Guitar, Vocals Chris Parks - Guitar, BVs Mel Harley - Drums Phil Barnes - Bass, BVs 4) Clive Gregson - Guitar, Vocals Chris Parks - Guitar, BVs Martin Hughes - Drums Phil Barnes - Bass, BVs 5) Vocals, guitar, keyboards - Clive Gregson Keyboards - Steve Gurl Drums - Andy Ebsworth Bass - Phil Barnes 6) Vocals, guitar, keyboards - Clive Gregson Keyboards - Steve Gurl Drums - Andy Ebsworth Bass - Phil Barnes It should be easy enough to link up Clive with Robyn, though, because Clive was in the Richard Thompson Band with Dave Mattacks, who has played with everybody in the post-Fairport folk-rock scene. - - Mike Godwin n.p. OK... I don't want to make a huge deal out of this, but THIS IS CRAP! I mean, I love the no-moving-parts idea, but those flash cards are a pain in the patootie and they cost a fortune. The REQUIREMENT of a home computer to upload things is silly. Until the Linux hack came, it was (and still is, with their commercial software) impossible to pull things OFF the Rio without just deleting them. My friend Clint has one and it's nifty and lightweight and plays well enough, but I'll take the versatility of an MD anyday. I kind of feel like Rio is cozying up to the record companies in their approach. There will be better products. (Look at the price! For something that plays about forty minutes and doesn't RECORD?)
