However, having said that, I did pick up the new Jeff Beck album and I REALLY dig it. There are a couple of klunkers on the disc, but for the most part, the music just cooks. A lot of folks don't enjoy the extendo-guitar solos, but if you do, or just want to here something a bit different, I'd say give it a listen at the CD shop (if it's possible). Music by Robyn Hitchcock. With: Robyn Hitchcock, Deni Bonet, Tim Keegan. Take British cult folk-rocker Robyn Hitchcock and let him sing 15 of his best songs, accompanied simply by two guitars and a violin. Set the performance in an East Village storefront that has floor-to-ceiling windows, letting all of New York City pass by (and look in). You might have to wait a few thousand light years to find such a brilliant musical concept on MTV, but it comes naturally to Jonathan Demme, who also made the excellent concert film Stop Making Sense, with the Talking Heads. Almost as great as the music are Hitchcock’s surreal commentaries, hitting on everything from the disappearance of the Isle of Wight to a futuristic world ruled by computers. 81 min. i'll probably catch at least one of these showings (why the hell not? hartford's just up the highway). if any feg in the area wants to get together before or after, drop a line. new york isn't that far away... unrelated amusement: +w n.p. june of 44 -- tropics and meridians ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Mar 1999 22:14:39 -0500 From: cinders blue Subject: Re: "how the fuck do you split a fucking car, ya dummy? with a fucking chainsaw?" Is this gonna be the year of the letdowns? I've been a little worried about whether or not the new Ben Folds Five would be any good. In this month's CMJ magazine there's yet another song from them (not "Tender"). The first track on the cd is "No Distance Left To Run," which is also on 13.
