Whoa-- "Good Old Boys" came out in 1974. You missed everything! Yes, it has a pretty complete collection, a lot of live stuff, which sounded pretty good the first time through. One of the discs is devoted entirely to his film music, which will probably be the one I play the least. My only complaint is that I would have liked for them to just box and re-release EVERYTHING, preserved in its original album line-up; this is 4 CDs of stuff all mixed together, and not every song from every album is on it. So in other words, I still want to go buy everything on CD, goddamnit. RN looks a little worse for the wear in the more recent pictures of him. And that is the kindest way I can put it. Actually, I was SHOCKED when I opened the box and saw the picture inside; I almost couldn't believe it was him. There's a quote in the back of the book from him about this: "Was I in some kind of terrible accident and no one has told me? I haven't looked in a mirror for a while. Perhaps I've gone bad." >Also: If RN comes to town, which bra will you wear to the concert? Personally, I like the Weird Shit - Invisible Hitchcock, You & Oblivion, Groovy Decay (collected and combined with its fraternal twin _Groovy Decoy_ on the reissue disc "Gravy Deco") but trying to be objective, the essentials are perhaps the four i mentioned. And BSDN is a nice reissue. 20/20 for effort. =b ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Mar 1999 16:23:37 -0800 (PST) From: Capuchin Subject: Re: How's the Water...? Queen Elvis. Get Queen Elvis first. It's his best. You'll listen to it for four months straight and then once a week for six years like I have. Boo. Anyway, since you have (like?) all the other A&M albums, I just have to recommend "Queen Elvis" (shut up, Eb) which is my 2nd-favorite RH album (after the incomparable "Eye"). It could be considered "over-produced" or even "over-arranged," but I generally don't offended by those things. So, if you don't either, then there are a wealth of great songs to be found on that album. And I have to second Bayard's votes for the other three albums he recommended for you to get next. He's right on the nose there, IMO. In case you don't know of it already, www.gemm.com is a great resource for finding music, including used CDs. Just type in "hitchcock" and I'm sure you'll be able to find plenty of goodies. And, while www.secondspin.com is listed through GEMM, it's a good place to check directly for Robyn stuff. They almost alays have used copies of "Queen Elvis" for around $5.99 (and "Perspex," but you probably don't need extra copies of that :-)). Well, happy hunting! - ------Michael K. ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V8 #78 ******************************
