Be patient with it and you can do it. From what I understand, about fifty percent of the people that try are capable of knowing both keyboards simultaneously and seamlessly shift form one to another. The other fifty percent must unlearn one to learn the other. This is important to note. You can certainly get by limpingly on both, but you can't truly soar on dvorak unless you want to risk forgetting or unlearning qwerty. (risk... it's just a risk) A performance increase of 70% is said to be average, but in my experience, it's the low end. I personally increased my typing speed by 120%. However, I found I couldn't qwerty very well, so I gave it up. It's just too hard and I use too many different machines that I can't switch around. That is all.
