Dear fegs, I've come to the conclusion that I seriously need to expand my RH tape collection, reading through all those posts about great shows this week has caused me to listen to every hitch tape I have and its just NOT ENOUGH. So, I'm looking to trade . I don't have much Hitchcock, perhaps 25 hours , but I do have around 1300 hours of live tapes by artists a-z. most are radio or sbd recordings , mostly in the a grade, most masters or 1st gen recordings .. About 200 shows are from australia , so they are somewhat rare.I've been aud taping for two years ,using a d6 for 1998. The artists , well, a very wide range, about the only thing I dont have a lot of 90's alt. I have a lot of recordings from australian Womads, so theres a bunch of great world music -nusrat, Keita, Chandra, Ongala, Oreyema, etc. . A fair sprinkling of blues, Cassandra Wilson, Keb Mo, BB King , Buddy Guy.John Hammond,Baldry, etc. Folk/folk rock - Thompson, Cooder,Jansch, string band,Luca Bloom , Michelle Shicked Robyn Williamson ,,Fairport, Swarb, Irvine, Steeleye, Martyn ,huge amounts of Irish Scottish stuff, including a lot of the new crossover bands like shooglenifty, Coolin' music, etc. Lots of old 60's/70's stuff; airplane, floyd,Quicksilver, miller, beatles, Can , Eno, crimson,Beefheart, Stones , cream,Clapton ,Domino's ,etc, Jazz,Pine,Garrett, McLaughlin, Miles, W report, oregon, Corea, etc. also got Costello, Xtc, teardrop, Wah, Bunnymen. Fire engines, beat, Chills,T heads,Wire, Shriekback, Cocteau twins & others ,plus off the wall stuff like ivor cutler and Viv stanshall.. a few nirvana, pumpkins and pearl jam items as well. I also have 1100 hrs of , er well, um, how to put this ,er........G******l D**d ( sorry but I had to mention this , there might be a trade in it. Also a fair swag of video, lots of australian nz bands but its PAL only I'm afraid. if cost worries you, it s about $5 us to send 5 tapes to australia, if you use a standard lightweight padded envelope. Private e-mails if you are interested and I really would like people to give some indication as to the quality of the tapes they have to offer , as I really only want very good to excellent quality . dave ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Aug 1998 22:44:53 +0930 From: dlang Subject: Re: Peter Cook 'n' Dudley Moore The BBC in their wisdom erased most of the Pete and Dud Tv episodes. Bastards!theres only about 90 mins left, which has come out as a BBC video. I found the funniest episode was the spoof documentary about a film producer called Brian Neasden - every other character was called Neasden too ( Neasden is a suburb in London). Its a wonderful pisstake of "murder in the cathedral " set in olde england , in which Pete and dud take all the roles, bishop, king, knights etc, Dud is hilarious, encased in squeaking armour and with a ridiculous speech impediment, raining spittle everywhere. I can also recommend Marty Feldman as well to those of you that like surreal British comedy, he wrote for many classic british shows, but his own series is also a minor wonder IMHO, Its also available as a BBC video tape. However,Dudley Moore completely lost his good qualities when he went to Hollywood. ( perhaps this alone justifies Eddies comment that the USA is the most evil country on earth, although you haven't spoilt Robyn, so there is hope for you all yet )I saw Dud on a chat show with Cook a few years ago and the old magic returned just like that, they were perfect for each other, but without Pete Dud was a shadow of himself . Strangely Cook also did very little after they split up, basically smoked and drank hinself to death,he could still be hilarious, but he just did not bother, a real tragedy. dave ps , no one has yet sent me ANY dream posts or surreal posse posts for my website, is anyone interested ? No ! I hear you cry. Anyway, regardless of your collective lethargy, I have about 60 pages of links , dreams, reviews, interviews and surreal stuff from the archives ready to go as soon as I get back to work and my bloody foot recovers.Sometime next week I hope. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Aug 1998 08:53:53 -0500 From: "Jay Lyall" Subject: Soul Coughing question: No Robyn Content Hey, who else here likes Soul Coughing? So - several a roles I could see Robyn in - 1} I think he'd be really cool if someone cast him in the "Audrey Hepburn" part in "My Fair Lady" and cast *--?--* in the other. I think a little role reversal is needed when it comes to Robyn...he is really quite a shy kind of guy - who blossoms in front of you when you steer the conversation onto a topic he enjoys talking about - believe me - did I ever find this out {embarrassing moments} the first time I talked to him, and the first time I interviewed him. I think he'd be quite good if someone - say Nicholas Roeg, did a film called "My Fair Gentleman?" Nah, they'd have to come up with a better title, and *not* let Theresa Russell star in it. The only female I could vaguely imagine playing opposite Robyn is *-Emma Thompson-*... 2} Back to Hepburn again, but Robyn could play George Peppard's role in "Breakfast At Tiffany's" - and not the version that wimped out on Truman Capote's novella - the script would have to come directly from the original text. Hey - I have time on my hands - bet I could write it. ;} 3} I'm considering the role reversal thing again - could Robyn play Hepburn's part, maybe, if Emma or Helena Bonham Carter {homewrecker! - no that's not true - Ken cheated on Emma quite a few times before they got married - so she knew what she was in for I guess} - played the George Peppard part. 4} And how about Omar Sharif's role in Dr. Zhivago - Robyn could play a Russian doctor who is a poet - and Julie Christie could {maybe} play opposite him. I'll try to think up some more Robyn H. potential film roles later... In response to Eb's question about musicians who have famous musicians for parents...I was wondering {Eb?} if this would count... Crispian Mills - {of **Kula Shaker** fame} - parents are Hailey Mills {actress} who met Crispin's dad Ray Boulting {director} in 1967 or so - during the filming of "The Family Way." You may also remember Ray Boulting from such films as "Seven Days To Noon (1950)," "The Outsider," (1948) and 1970's "There's A Girl In My Soup" - Goldie Hawn and Peter Sellers starred in that one... So Eb, does this count? Also included are the reviews from the original album by Don Everly, Duane Eddy and some 60s session guitarist and pop singer for whom *I* was named (he and Everly are rumored to have been on the album). The track listing includes (2) > covers of Robyn Hitchcock tunes: "The Man Who Invented Himself" and "I > Want To Destroy You". > > Does anyone else know of other bands that have covered a Hitchcok tune > (other than Vega/The Dead)? R.E.M. recorded "Arms Of Love" as the B-side to "Man On The Moon" and the Circle Jerks recorded "I Want To Destroy You" with Debbie Gibson on backing vocals.
