So he starts doing these exaggerated floppy-hula sorts of movements. The "flopping" I commented upon only occurred during the guitarless tunes. Since he rarely *is* without an instrument, maybe some of you simply haven't seen this. He telnetted from said ISP into arbornet.org, which as you said offers free mail, and is public access UNIX based. You know, somehow I get the impression that the people who put it together had the idea of being able to provide access to the homeless or to those who can't afford computers, to allow them to participate in net communication (my inference from looking at their webpage was that they are somehow charitable in intent). The idea of providing a shelter for wannabe Dahlmers was probably far from what they pictured. >have mailed the spam to info@... So, if anything can be done, it is in >their hands. Actually I looked up their webpage, and roots@ is the place to send abuse complaints, for those who wish to do so. I'm sure info@ will get it where it needs to be, tho. You might want to mention in the note that fingering beavis@m-net.arbornet.org turns up the information that he was logged in from a Utah-based ISP called x-mission.com, because that will no doubt aid them in their efforts to trace what happened. >sense, they don't exist. Alas, not much can be done of said person >behavior in the long term. Now this, unfortunately, is the truth. These people will always find new ways to hurt and upset. The only thing we can do is complain, and perhaps if this is in fact the result of a security loophole (whether or not it's a forgery I'd rather not speculate on-list either, though I have my theories if anyone wishes to talk about it off-list), the ISP(s) involved can fix it, thus making it a little bit more difficult for him next time round. Ahh, you figured out my clues. ;) The thing that kills me about Thomas onstage is how between vocal lines, he steps away from the mic and seems to ARGUE with himself. A man possessed! He is just FASCINATING to watch. A deeply complex and mysterious character. Parenthetical note: I've heard Thomas compared to Jackie Gleason a hundred times, but Van the Man? Hrm, I dunno. Incidentally, Thomas is quite accessible on the Internet. If you email him with a worthwhile point/question via the Pere Ubu announcement list, he'll write you back...in detail. He's quite computer-savvy. In fact, he actually did the programming for the band's recent enhanced CD5's on Tim/Kerr, as well as the enhanced portion of his solo Erewhon disc. Impressive.
