Anyone have any suggestions? >(Anyone remember Creem or Trouser Press? Those were good magazines.) At one time there was a really great English music magazine called "Q", edited by Mark Ellen. They were wickedly funny and had a real sense of rock history: while they might do an article on Tin Machine (titled "Are Tin Machine Crap? Discuss.") they would turn around and talk about the cover to a Move album from 1972 or tell you what happened to the guys in The Records -- the sort of thing that reminded me of the old old Trouser Press ("let's do an entire article on the Idle Race!"). I haven't looked at an issue in years, though, and I heard the guys who did the "cool old stuff" parts formed a new mag called MOJO. So I don't know whether Q stinks now. In fact, if you use your thumb on the low string, you don't have to use your index finger at all. Your index finger could be busy doing other highly constructive things, like typing e-mail messages. I'm actually playing "Chinese Bones" right now, while I type this. (Later, I'm going to clean my oven while playing "Gene Hackman".) >> Actually, the suspended 2 for an A Major chord would be the note 'B'; 'C#' is the maj. 3rd, which is already in place when playing the A Major triad. Likewise, 'E' is the sus4 of B Maj. On AM, I'm not sure what your thumb would be doing on the low string; playing it open gives you the fifth of the chord already. For BM, however, using your thumb on the 2nd fret *will* give you a note within the triad (the 5th again). But, if you want to play a sus4, then you could also just let the low E string ring out, which would give you that 4th. For BM, though, I'm not sure how you'd get around not using your index finger --there's gotta be a D# and an F# in there somewhere. All of this is assuming that you're playing in standard tuning, of course. Now, I'm no mega-guitarist (at all), but I'm almost certain these practical and theoretical corrections are accurate. - -----Michael K. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Jun 1998 12:21:51 PDT From: "Capitalism Blows" Subject: the number 3 i posted a note some weeks ago saying that i was perfectly willing to purchase tickets for any out of towners when they went on sale june 9th. nobody got back to me. however, tickets didn't go on sale june 9th, so i haven't even purchased mine yet. i'll go get them on tuesday. anybody wants me to get tickets for them, e-mail me by tuesday, 10 am, and tell me how many you want. the ad lists "robyn hitchcock and guests," which presumably means, during his set. no opening act is listed. for all we know, it could just be the rubbrshrk. doors for croc shows open at 9, music usually starts by 10:30. i'd guess robyn will take the stage between 11 and 11:30. actually, i've been meaning for years upon years to have a gigantic thoth painted upon my hood. just too lazy too have gotten around to it, though i did look into it once upon a time. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Jun 1998 00:05:42 -0500 From: nicastr@idt.net (Ben) Subject: Robyn at The Ram's Head Robyn kepy up the string of fantastic shows in the DC area tonight! It is also really well written and consistently entertaining. MOJO is also good but not as good as Q in my opinion, although some issues are superb. Mojo generally i think, fits the criteria better than Q. Basically get a copy of each and make your own mind up or just subscibe to both..
