I hate to tell you, but you joined F-troop for nothing. Bob Denver wasn't on that show. Maybe you should have joined Dusty's Trail, with Bob and Forrest Tucker (probably where the F-troop reference comes in.) Yeah, Dusty's Trail, an exact replica of Gilligans Island, except silly old Dusty(Denver) got them lost in the old west. Everybody sing - "Dusty's the reason for their plight, Thanks to Dusty nothings right"..... Oh yeah, I can just see Sherwood Schwartz now, "If we change the characters names, and put them in the old west, we can just recyle the same scripts. No one will notice!" Imagine how horrible it was for Denver to land another role.... and it's still Gilligan!!! ARRGGHHHHH!!! No wonder he turned to drugs. Oh, and before I forget, I saw some Beach Boys/American Band/whatever footage on Inside Edition the other night. David Marks, who played with them in the early 60s, is touring with them, playing guitar. And who's face should I see, as they're rolling that incredible footage of the band playing on stage.... none other than John Stamos, and playing guitar no less! Wow! Yes, so the band is now Mike, Al, Bruce, David Marks, and John Stamos, plus a bunch of other guys I've never even heard of, who when interviewed, had the title "Beach Boy" under their name. Will the horror never cease?! So those of you excitedly checking on / stalking John Stamos, will be please to know he's still involved with the Beach Boys somehow. Yeah! And yet the fans are still paying for tickets. Frightening. Speaking of Beach Boys fans being stuck in the past, I skimmed the two Beach Boys newsgroups earlier today, and was annoyed to see not one mention of Rufus Wainwright. Hmpf. Also, I'm (say it with me) troubled over the lack of anticipation/"buzz" about Brian Wilson's new album Imagination, which leads me to conclude that it's not nearly as good as we'd hope. :( Eb ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 7 Jun 1998 20:09:48 -0400 (EDT) From: normal@grove.ufl.edu Subject: beach boys/"The Norm"/Gloss Fish J-cards Who is John Stamos? Look for Milwaukee when the cross streets are in > the low teens. these are pretty good directions. It's also important to note that the Aladdin's marquee is one of those old big ones that is easily read and can be seen quite clearly on the left side of the street if you're heading west on Powell. (In the movie Zero Effect, Ryan O'neal is told to head north on Powell. Can't be done. I think that should be justifiable grounds for not paying blackmail money.) The Aladdin is an old movie theater, for those of you out of the know. So it has foldy wooden seats and a ridiculous gap between the stage and the front row. I do suggest we arrive early early or else we'll get bad seats. It was more or less filled last June. I'm too excited for words. I'm betting Karen the Mail Carrier, Ua, and Ian will all be in attendance. I'll be surrounded by friends and fegs alike. Yipee. J. OK, so I went to see Big Bad VooDoo Daddy last night. I didn't pay for it or anything. Ua had a spare ticket so I tagged along. I only had a good time because it was free. Why are these psuedoswing cocktail kids so self-indulgent and self-referential? Not one of the songs they played (with the exception of two covers) were about something other than swing/jump or cocktails. And the boys in their pinstripe suits... come on! It was 140 degrees in there! Dancing is fun. Bands with triumphant horn sections are great listening. I have it on respected authority that some cocktails are pleasant to drink. A good suit is hard to put down. But can't you have all of those things AND a life? Can't you write jump blues that doesn't include the word "jump", "blues" or "swing" in the lyrics? Grow up, posers. People are so annoying. ________________________________________________________ J A Brelin Capuchin ________________________________________________________ ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V7 #216 *******************************
