Any guesses? No, it's not the day Peter Tork became a breatharian. I'm also pretty sure it isn't anyone's birthday, though I do remember that both Charlie Watts & Ron Wood were born the first week of June so it could possibly be one of theirs, I 'spose (coming up- Howlin' Wolf, Paul McCartney, One Brain Eno, Rod Argent, I think Pete Townshend but I'm not totally sure, and on my birthday, yes I'm shameless, Ray Davies and the guy from Badfinger whose name someone here will remember - very musical month, this). Anyway, here's something I've been wondering about- recently made a strange find- an album called "Slut", a collaboration between Marc Almond & Foetus. I just saw this and thought- this combination has potential to be interesting :). Well, I'll say that for it, it IS interesting. Anyway, the inside notes don't have very much information so I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this record, how the collaboration came about, or just websites where I can read that type of info, I'd appreciate it. My understanding is that Slut is a compilation of tracks recorded around 1987-1988 between Almond and Foetus/Thirlwell. The original release was a three-track EP called "Slut," released under the band name "Flesh Volcano." See http://www.foetus.org/discog/slut.html. The new "Slut" reissue takes those three tracks and (I believe) adds a couple of subsequent singles released under Almond's name which Thirlwell produced. OK? I agree that the liner notes are ridiculously deficient. Maybe you even think this is new material, for all I know. Eb PS Something I found on the Web: As you know, the real name of Bill Gates is William Henry Gates III. Also, if you know what is the ASCII code (one letter is a number) do the following: Add the ASCII codes for BILL GATES III. "some have called me...Brewer Tom." and then he rides off into the sunset. well, i guess it'd probably have to be into the moonlight if it was dark out and all. any more details on Brewer Tom would be appreciated. now, "pass the tanning butter," has always been my second favorite line to quote (after, "that's what the hebrews thought." you'd be surprised at how appropriate a response this is to just about any statement.) but, this didn't strike me until just the other day. i was listening to Rock Lobster, thinking, "oh, this is vaguely robynesque subject matter," when it hit me like a brick shithouse: ROBYN SHOULD COVER ROCK LOBSTER!!! oh, i know you're thinking this is the dumbest of all the dumb things i've ever said. but, go listen to the song right now, before you forget about it, with this in mind. and when you do, by god, you'll see i'm right! he'd need someone to do the female vocals, of course. is deni capable of handling this? i've never heard her sing. does she sing with her own band? oh god, this would be even better than him covering Jukebox Hero. to paraphrase the anthony michael hall character from Edward Scissorhands, whose name escapes me at the moment, i'd give my left testicle to hear that!! <...But does anyone else think that "gish", the first record that cost $6,000 to make, is *STILL* the best of the lot?> yes. and, this'll sound even stupider than the above, but i think that album's about the coming of buddhism to india. like, it's not only a concept album, but a history lesson as well. ok, probably not. but that's sure what it evokes when i listen to it. Actually I'm guessing I have the new(er) one because it has different cover art than the one on the webpage Eb pointed me to, and it has more songs. Quite the mystery, why an EP was released and then later what's pretty much a full album- with no information on it. I actually was hoping, since I seem to remember that there are some Thirwell (sp?)-heads on here, for some background info on how this collaboration came about, but of course that might be better sent to me in private mail, cause this has most likely gone far enough as a thread :). It gives me the idea for another thread tho, actually, if anyone is bored enough to followup. This album is one of the few I've ever heard where even after two or three listens my main reaction was "What IS this?????". The last time that happened was with Scott Walker's, "Tilt". Sort of like well, this is very interesting and very mad, but I'm not even sure if it's good or if I like it or not, and I definitely don't think I get it. Anyone else ever have this reaction to something? >some wonderful tapes sent to me by michael and dont really wish to hear marc >run around yelling SLUT all through my home...... Well, it's actually a lot of fun if you're in the mood to yell SLUT!!!! along with, but you know, most people including me aren't in that kind of mood -all- that often :). Sort of like Adam Ant's "Greta X"- either you're in the mood to gleefully yell out "I'm a joyous glad TV/Why don't you come TV with me?", or you're just not, but I suspect it doesn't come about all that frequently. It's good for doing housework to tho. Love on ya, Susan P.S. Just finished watching a very sad VH1 special about Keith Moon. Did anyone else catch this? The weather's cooling off and long nights by the fire are frequent. More people are in an autumnal cuddly mood. Before you upside-down folks balk, I'd like to remind you that the northern hemisphere is heavier, people-wise, than the southern by a whole lot.
