My guess is that they're billed like that because it sells more tickets than just "America's Band". I wouldn't go see "America's Band". Re. insect-eating, a friend of mine tells the following story: an American anthropologist was living with a tribe whose main protein source came from insects. Since the guy was not into eating bugs himself, he had brought his own food supply with him, which included many jars of peanut butter. After a while, he noticed that nobody in the tribe would eat with him. He asked someone why, and they replied, "It's that disgusting stuff you eat, it looks like baby shit!" If you present it as "Mike is a better musician/songwriter than the other 3", that's accepted universally. If you present it as "Mike is the only Monkee with any talent and I can't see why he's slumming with those actors-pretending-to-be-a-band" then it gets ugly. Kinda like insisting that Ray was the only talented Kink or that Brian was the only Beach Boy who ever wrote anything worthwhile. John used to be a bona fide 100% hippie who wrote books with titles like _The Flying Saucer Vision_ and _The View Over Atlantis_. He picked up on Feng Shui in the 60s, when hardly anyone outside China had heard of it. The last time I spoke to him (20 years ago?) he was holding forth on the concept of 'Radical Traditionalism' (whatever that is) and enthusing about the character of Sylvan Forrester in the Thomas Love Peacock books. I've searched the web for info but come up pretty empty so I thought some of the UK fegs might have more info. Here's what NME online has to say about it: "KRAFTWERK are to release a new album and perform live on London's South Bank as part of an electronic music festival under the working title of 'Machines'. The 'Machines' festival is also scheduled to feature, among others, Scanner, Cabaret Voltaire and Heaven 17 spin-off group, BEF. It's due to take place over a month at various South Bank venues including the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Purcell Rooms." If anyone has more info please send private email to me.
