I just contacted both the Quality Inn and EconoLodge hotels mentioned on the Quail's www site, and rooms are scarce. The Quality Inn is full for that weekend, but I did get a room at EconoLodge ($55 per night, btw). Seems there are a lot of soccer players in town that weekend. Shrug. Interesting selections. Currently my top favourite Donovan song is "Sunny Goodge Street", followed by "12 Kingfishers", "Sand and Foam", "Peregrine", "Hurdy Gurdy Man" "Season of the Witch" "Epistle to Dippy" and "Rikki Tikki Tavi". "Catch the Wind" is OK but nothing like his best - and "Crystal Man" ("Seagull I don't want your wings", that one?) is nowhere near his worst - "Intergalactic laxative" is memorably bad, "Oh gosh" is nothing special and "I love my shirt" has that really irritatingly twee quality to perfection: I love my shirt, I love my shirt My shirt is so comfortably lovely I love my shirt, I love my shirt My shirt is so comfortably lovely When I take it to the cleaners Can't wait to get it back again Never take it to the cleaners I'd rather wash it in a stream You know what I mean? "Heartbeat, Pigmeat" is on the Zabriskie Point soundtrack, which Rhino just reissued in an expanded double-disc format. I also have a really good bootleg called "The Dark Side of the Moo" which has nothing but studio rarities from pre-Meddle Floyd. It has all those songs on the mini-CD too. Basically I am asking what the differences (sonically) between the cd's in the boxed set and the newly remastered cd's are. I doubt this heavily. Didn't "Radio KAOS" do fairly well? Has he even released anything since "Amused to Death"? And having 1/4 royalties and 3/4 songwriting royalties of the classic Floyd albums (which are still selling at a good clip) probably keeps him living well. He possibly gets a cut from PF tours (on account of having written the songs). He doesn't strike me as a particularly uncontrollable spender. If he wasn't willing to put up with Syd, when Syd could be realistically viewed as the band's only chance at fame, I don't see why he'd work with Dave for the sake of selling a few more albums.
