Is that still happening? Are there any dates confirmed for it? What songs would be on it? * Actually, the question I'd really like to ask, though I don't think I could ask it, is why he doesn't put out material more often. He's actually one of the most prolific artists I know of in terms of *writing* songs, but it takes forever for new work to appear. Maybe that's more of an observation than a question, but here's how I might phrase it: Since you write so many songs, why not periodically just go into the studio with an acoustic guitar and record 12 or 14 of the new ones live, kind of like the early, early Dylan records? Couldn't you do this while you're in the longer, more elaborate recording stages of the more "produced" work? This would have multiple advantages: 1) We'd all be happy, 2) Wonderful songs wouldn't fall through the cracks, never to be heard again, as so often happens, and 3) It would send the songs out in their straight, unfiltered stage with all their weird soul intact, avoiding the problems Robyn's sometimes run into with his recordings where I've heard him say that they were overworked and became progressively more normal, less concentrated. Well, that second question is maybe a bit long, but perhaps you could work with it? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Mar 1998 17:32:48 -0500 (EST) From: Eric Loehr Subject: Re: WRNR plug On Fri, 13 Mar 1998, luther wrote: (Bayard spake:) > >this was on WHFS, an annapolis MD station that used to be super cool and a > >good friend to robyn before they got bought out and went sickeningly > >mainstream. > > ....and then the entire station jumped ship to WRNR 103.1, > which STILL PLAYS ROBYN (along with Richard Thompson, Can, and > anything-the-hell-else) DURING THE DAY! > Listen in, they need the audience! Ah yes, but you have only seen RH in the US I believe. I can remember reading an article with Robyn in Creem magazine, early '87. In it, he said that he much prefered his American fans (who keep a respectable distance) to his British ones, who he found a little too intense at times. As I remember one quote it said of his UK fans "Some of them seem to want to get into the suit you're wearing". Well, that describes my friend, certainly during the mid 80's. I have always wondered if he was thinking of my chum when this interview took place. > > Hmmm. Many of us have shared our cringe-filled "Most embarrassing meeting > Robyn story." As far as I know it happened, if anyone went to see Robyn in Manchester around '85-'86 and can remember anything of this incident let us know. I myself would love to have heard what Robyn said afterwards. Jon M ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V7 #100 *******************************
