If so, where's the join !!!! Eb ebbed: <1990: Songs for Drella (with Cale), placed 17th [I'd rank it higher] 1992: Magic & Loss, placed 16th [I'd rank it higher]> I have these two and 'Drella' is too hard on the ears for my taste (or should that be too hard on the tongue?). The 'death' subject matter of 'Drella' also gets me down - although I concede that most of the album *has* to explore themes of death because it's a 'Warhol deceased tribute' album. Nevertheless, I don't care for it much and I far prefer Magic&Loss which is more tuneful. Vince evinced: Almost true but not quite true. #18 was redeemed by a post mentioning Robyn's gigs at the 12 Bar later this month. (0.01% RH Content) Hey all, Rented the movie "Hype!" last night on video and enjoyed it far more than I was expecting to. For those who haven't seen it (or non-Seattlites), it's essentially a broader scoped "Athen, GA: Inside Out" with the central difference being the explosion of Nirvana and the crass Grunge-commerialism thing that threw the whole scene over the top. Several snippets of and about the Young Fresh Fellows and Scott McCaughey (the 0.01% RH psuedo-content). I was thoroughly impressed with Eddie Vedder's lucidity, and the take-it-all-in-stride humor of the big Screaming Trees guitarist guy...he's a riot. A lot of the lesser known bands that filled the movie were just great...like I said, if you didn't know better, you might think you were sitting through "Inside Out". IMHO, "Combat Rock" is a stellar album. One that is too complex for most people to grasp; thus the Casbah and Stay/Go songs which are the only ones that most people get to hear. The thematic approach is difficult to take; what with the Vietnam references, the Ginsburg, and other overt and not-so references of various sorts. The Main Thing. somebody included this as filler for me a while back, and i instantly fell in love with it. very glad to see it turn up here. is that the only time he's performed it? The Face of Death. yeah! reminiscent of last year's take on Freeze. eb, i'm afraid you're just wrong about robyn not being able to squeeze out sparks anymore. I Found A Reason, Satellite of Love. yes, we really ought to put together a robyn covering vu tape. the problem is, they're just thrown in there and not alphabetized. many would say, that's half the fun: it's great to search all day long through rows and rows of crap, and finally strike upon that rare gem. ugh, i haven't the patience. more power to those that do, though. Boy, considering all the buckets and buckets of energy people on this list expend chasing down Robyn concert tapes worldwide, taking 10 minutes to sift through a few hundred unalphabetized CDs doesn't seem too outlandish. While we're discussing such "no pain, no gain" issues: I happened to be in another Wherehouse branch last night, and found the legendary Laurie Anderson/William S. Burroughs/John Giorno CD "You're the Guy I Want to Share My Money With" for a mere *99 cents*. The booklet has a generously snipped corner, but the CD itself is immaculate! If I decide not to hang onto this, it's probably worth $20 on the Internet. ;) A new personal band "discovery": Little Red Rocket. Album is called Who Did You Pay, on Tim/Kerr Records. Pleasant girl-pop from Birmingham, Alabama. Nothing earth-shaking, but they sound like they care, which is more than I say for many, many other new indie-pop bands. And maybe their next album will have hooks AND personality. There are lots of Pop-Rock records in the Robyn catalog, of course.
