No, please don't RH. More songs about death and smut! YEAH! No disrespect meant Matthew, but I disagree with you. When Robyn does nothing but "Gene Hackman" and "Direct Me To The Cheese" type stuff it really gets to ME. I HATE that. I'd be thrilled if there was entire set of songs from "Eye", Dylan covers, "Knife", "Never Stop Bleeding", "Sleeping WIth YOur Devil Mask".........and no self-consciously charming numbers whatsoever. As someone who has been written faithfully to every incarnation of any organization claiming to be even the slightest bit devoted to Robyn Hitchcock, seeking to align myself with them, I can honestly say that Antwoman gave me more in 6 short months than any other person or group did. I sent 3 separate requests for fanclub admittance to Sandra & Trudi, hearing back from them over a year later, and they returned my old correspondence (that they never responded to before) just to prove they had gotten it! No sooner had that happened, when they went -Kersplat_ or whatever it was that they did, and it was off in someone else's hands. At one point Mrs. Wafflehead had an address in San Fran. I sent a letter RETURN RECEIPT requested!! and I got the slip back from someone (couldn't read the writing), but never heard back. In short, I've never expected much from that kind of folk. I get much more info etc. from you fegs than I ever did from an "information service" (which must be even worse than an oxymoron). Agreed. Which is why the abrupt halt to the flow is even more disheartening. I was hoping that, in the future, Antwoman (aka J. Blair, being a friend of Robyn's and girlfriend of Tim K.'s) would be showering us with unreleased goodies and "fan-club only" trinkets, etc. but alas...she's gone missing. *sigh* > I get much more > info etc. from you fegs than I ever did from an "information service" Wholeheartedly agreed. /hal ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Jan 1998 15:47:32 -0500 (CDT) From: Gregory Stuart Shell Subject: 1997 - T.T. ey All, Since I know you all have been hanging off the edges of your seats, just waiting for my 1997 Omni-Top Ten list I have decided to post it now and get you monkeys off my back. But first I'll tell you about a trip I made last year to the Big Bend National Park in west Texas. Which was the highlight of 1997 for me. Big Bend is a fucking amazing place. It is huge, rough and overpowering, extremely humbling, outrageously beautiful, wild and pure. My rediscovery of this place came at a perfect time. It was like a re-awakening or spiritual journey that I did not even know I was on until it was over. Sometimes I would sing "Waterloo Sunset" and trying to replace Terry and Julie with the names of a Mexican couple etc.. Well, I never could get the names to sound quite right, so Terry and Julie became Mexicans from the town Boquillas. For some reason, during the long road trip, I kept thinking I was on my way to the ocean. The river was the beach and Mexico was the ocean and I could not go any farther. Even once I got there and started exploring, Mexico looked like a big wave. Along a large section of the border in the Big Bend on the Mexican side of the river, a cliff shoots straight up hundreds and hundreds of feet. It is a real weird, because Texas just quits and then Mexico starts, way up above. It is like a big wall separating the two countries. Very weird looking, as with the entire area, giving spectacular views from all sides. In other areas the cliffs tower over on both sides for long distances. At a number of spots along the Mexican side, little streams have carved sharp, deep gorges in the old hard rock, as they made their way towards the Rio Grande. Native plant and animal life next to the river, in the Chisos Mountains and various other areas near springs and pools where water gathers and deep into these gorges, is abundant. A circus of snakes, lizards, rabbits, turtles, giant gar fish, huge centipedes, panthers, bears, lots of birds, skunks, deer, coyotes and that is just a few. It is mountains and it is desert and it is rivers. It is dry and it is wet. An oasis within and oasis surrounded by an oasis. A long way to the nearest doctor, it is not a place you would just stumble upon or run into by accident. But once you are there you will never want to leave. Anyway, after much effort, we made it across the river and setup camp in Mexico at the mouth of one of those gorges. I don't remember the name of the stream but it is near Castalon. Late that night, while I was sitting in front a small candle, I was watching all the different insects fly towards the flame, singe a wing and fly right back if they could and burn any remaining wing or flop around on the ground next to candle with only part of a wing left. Some would land right on flame and put it out. I could hear a soft sizzle as their innards roasted. I even ate one. The insects made me think of the "Marfa Lights" and all the people that go to Marfa and chase the lights. Just a bunch of naked bodies running around looking for something. They don't know what they are looking for, but they think they are supposed to be looking. So they keep running around getting burned and watching as others get burned. Just like bugs. Sorry about that, but I have been wanting to write about that experience for a while now. No Robyn here, except I did listen to Globe of Frogs, Eye and Respect during the trip (a few times). Q. I thought this was supposed to be a Robyn Hitchcock mailing list. How come all you ever talk about is the Stones, the Kinks, and the Beach Boys? A. Let's face it: Robyn just isn't very interesting. Q. What's up with this Eb guy? How come he's so grouchy? A. Aw, Eb's ok. If you don't like something he says, just ignore it. Anyway, you'll want to get on his good side, so he'll send you a bunch of free promo shit. Q. How come the Great Quail never posts anymore? A. Oh, he's a big award-winning webmaster now. He doesn't really have time for the little people these days. Q. How come the fegs don't like GROOVY DECAY? A. Because they're fucked up. Q. Is Bayard as cool in person as his mail suggests? A. And then some. Q. Is it true that Robyn is a Socialist? A. You'd better believe it! Q. How come that Eddie guy is such an asshole? A. It's probably genetic. Q. Why does everybody treat Susie D. so reverently when she only posts once a month or something? A. The thing is, she used to post roughly three times an hour. Lengthy, eloquent, thoughtful posts. Majestic, even. Q. Oh, I'd love to go look some of those up! When will the archives again be accessible? A. Next question. Q. What's woj's last name? A. Presumably the same as his twin brother, Sven. Q. How come Dede doesn't have any opinions about Robyn Hitchcock? A. Well, that's the $64,000 question, isn't it? Q. Who's that guy with all the punny nicknames? A. That's Glen. You probably won't be hearing from him for a while, as he went into shock and his fingers froze up when his Raiders lost their tenth game of the season. Q. Did the Great Quail really make this whole thing up? A. Yes, he runs it out of a dummy server in Intercourse, Pennsylvania. Except for LJ. She's a real person. Q. Should I purchase GLASS FLESH? A. What? You haven't got it yet? For shame! "That socialism cannot or may never be attained does not mitigate capitalism's inherent inability to serve as the rational institutional standard for a just society or peaceful world, or lessen the need for a fundamental alternative embodying socialism's original objectives and inspiration to resolve many of the world's enormous problems." --Gabriel Kolko ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Jan 1998 16:11:03 +1200 From: james.dignan@stonebow.otago.ac.nz (James Dignan) Subject: Re: fegmaniax-digest V7 #5 >Once upon a time when I was an audiophile and vinyl >snob, I would always use the Discwasher...
