Well, I'm at home, away from all of my albums, and I haven't been able to listen to my Christmas purchases, and I don't think I've even heard ten albums from the past year that I've liked. However, my pick for the ost underrated artist (and it just happens to be New Years when I make that pick. The artist in question hasn't recorded for 30 years, but I first heard them this year) is Tintern Abbey. Their songs are all first-class psychedelic gems. All two of them (Beeside and Vacuum Cleaner). If you get a chance to pick them up (they're on some compilations of British psychedelic obscure bands. The runner-up is The Zombies, because Odessey and Oracle is one of the most top-notch records I own. So everywhere you see a * just assume it's a * and not a *, except of course where I meant it to be an * (i.e., Titanic, Trashcan Sinatras and Forest for the Trees) And as Eb pointed out to me, yes, I meant Urban Hymns.
