Six tracks are on the album and the cover shows a picture of a very young Robyn at a gig playing a *black stratocaster*. The musicians are listed as Robyn and Morris with *Alan Davies* on guitar. The sleeve notes say "Spaceward Studio 1977, Overground Records licensed from Raw Records". Was this an authorised release or have I got some kind of vinyl bootleg ? The worst thing is this. I reached inside and pulled out Another Green World by Brian Eno. I can't believe it. I have no idea where the actual record is. Was this an authorised release or have I got some > kind of vinyl bootleg ? IIRC, Overground put out a couple of bootlegs... only "Give it to the Soft Boys" came out on Raw though, I think. Was _The Day They Ate Brick_ an Overground release as well? (_TDTAB_ is the "legendary", "too bad to release" album right? so any release of same couldn't be legit..) Anyway, I checked Russ Reynolds' RH Musicography and found no mention of Raw Cuts, so I'd say it's a boot. =b ps. I'm pretty sure 110 min tapes are not as thin as 120 min ones. Some people have reported problems with 110's, though. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Nov 1997 16:21:13 -0500 (EST) From: Chris Subject: Seatac II tree- minidisc traders I've had several people ask me if I am doing a minidisc branch of the Sea-Tac II tree. In short, I would like to respectfully, yet very > strongly, differ with our esteemed member from Canada on this issue :). > I am moved by "Beautiful Queen". "I Something You" strikes me as a novelty number, and I'm embarassed to admit I don't know the others. I've yet to hear "I Feel Beautiful ...". Maybe the music carries the song. The lyrics sure don't read like "Beautiful Queen" to me. I just fired off that letter witout having specific examples in mind. When I tried to think of light, fluffy love songs penned by John for Yoko, the best I could do is "Oh Yoko", and it's not half bad. On the other hand "#9 Dream", "Love", "Look at Me", "Isolation" all were written by John about his relationship with Yoko, and they all strike me as powerful, evocative pieces. Never mind. Now, "The Lovely Linda", "Silly Love Songs", "Cook of the House (did Paul write that?) all come off as banal. Sorry, Susan. I have recently discovered Loreena McKennitt myself and cannot recommend her highly enough. For those who don't know her, she does a unique celtic folk/middle-eastern fusion thing. And she has a fabulous voice, too! Of course, Massive Attack and P. Gabriel are also pretty good company to keep. As you know, I've been on the left side of the pond for a few years, so it has been a while since I was in Covent Garden. Sure, the opera is there (somewhere. *I've* ever been), but the area is mainly known for it's street life -- lots of street entertainers, lots of tourists, cafes, health food restaurants. It's a place where people can go to just "hang out". Elsewhere you'll find people with heads down, determinedly going from A to B with no time to take in the atmosphere. That story is too precious for words. It sounds like an ABC After School Special TV movie. I'm teasing, of course, for I too have a Robyn/Cranberry Juice story to tell. Actually, it has to do with Andy Metcalfe, but that's close enough. My friend Brian & I saw Robyn, Andy & Morris during their 1992 Perspex Island tour. We saw them in Eugene, Or, and it was the night that Robyn's father had died. Understandably, it was a very strange, tense night. That was the night I heard Robyn sing, "When I was Dead" for the first time. After the gig, Brian wanted to meet Robyn, and so we hung around the tour bus for a while, feeling stupid. Robyn & the band, plus a few hangers-on, emerged from the building and got on the tour bus. Brian & I chatted w/the other 2 fans while we waited for someone to emerge from the bus. Andy did. He held a giant, unopened jug of Cranberry Ocean Spray juice in his hands. The first words I heard him say were: "Does anybody want some cranberry juice?" All of us looked at each other, and then I spoke up. "Yeah, I'll take it!" Andy gave me the whole jug--apparently the fridge on the tour bus was overstocked. On the plastic cap was the letter "H" in black ink pen. ..I considered saving the whole jug, but decided that was silly. I kept the cap instead. Yes, it was tasty juice. p.s. My friend Brian got Robyn's autograph (I was too shy to approach; his father had just died, for god's sake) and felt bad about it afterwards, given the night's somber news. Whenever he hears the lyrics, "I've got a Harrison Ford poster rolled up in my desk/I'd sign it for you dude, if you'd only request" (from "Driving Aloud"), he's afraid it's about HIM. - --Carole On Sat, 29 Nov 1997, Randi wrote: > > The dumbest thing I ever did to see a Robyn show...G-d forbid my mom > ever reads this...is to sneak out of the hospital in October 1994...two > days before surgery...to see RH at "Lee's Palace" in Toronto...my mom > never knew...but Robyn did...so he kept me comfortable backstage and fed > me cranberry juice all night then put me in a taxi when the show was > over...and ya...he ragged on me a bit but it was worth it to have him > 'baby' me... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 30 Nov 1997 00:07:10 -0500 (EST) From: Bayard Subject: Re: Cranberry Juice trivia He was drinking cranberry juice during the june '91 9:30 club gig too.
