I just found Sweet Relief II. It's a CD of cover versions of Vic Chesnutt songs (except one song, which features Vic). The Smashing Pumpkins do "Sad Peter Pan. For almost all of the song, Billy Korgan's voice is the least irritating I've ever heard it to be. They make up for it with a scratchy, irritating guitar sound. Darius Rucker comes off sounding rather Vic-like for most of his song. What a grab-bag of artists! There's REM, Garbage, Soul Asylum, Indigo Girls, LIVE, Hootie and the Blowfish, and Madonna. Others featured who I hadn't heard before this are Nanci Griffith, Kristin Hersh, Joe Henry, dog's eye view, Mary Margeret O'Hara and Victoria Williams (whose medical bills are being paid for in part by the profits from this CD). Pick this up and hear Madonna sing something that isn't trash for once (Guilty by Association). - -- Ross Overbury Montreal, Quebec, Canada email: rosso@cn.ca ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Nov 1997 01:09:38 +0000 (GMT) From: fitter happier Subject: Robyn's secret gig... I believe I've found out about a secret gig Robyn's gonna play in Cambridge (UK). I'm posting this to the list as I'm going to be on holiday at the time *sob*... so if anyone is suitably gratified, perhaps they'd like to tape the gig and send me a copy?! When I rang up the Boat Race about next Thursday's gig a few weeks ago, the guy said "and look out for a secret gig next month. That's all I'm saying". On the December Boat Race listings, there's a secret gig listed for Sunday Dec 21 - tickets =A37, only available IN ADVANCE in person from Elliott or John at the bar... So please, please could someone go, tape it and send me a copy? I'm really upset I'm going to miss it... Toby PS Is anyone taping next Thursday's gig? I've got a tape of last Thursday's Camden gig, which is excellent... I got this one from Bayard. Try rubbing the CD with toothpaste. I recommend "Tom's of Maine" children's toothpaste, which seems to have a finer abrasive than most. It saved a copy of "Eye" from the garbage can. I polished my "Eye" for about 15 minutes. - -- Ross Overbury Montreal, Quebec, Canada email: rosso@cn.ca ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Nov 1997 23:46:31 -0500 (EST) From: Chris Subject: Sea-Tac II tape tree Hi, everyone.
