Sudden was in a previous band with Epic called Swell Maps.< A sad loss. In '79 I once saw the Swell Maps live. They were great on stage, completely anarchic. I remember there were two drummers. They supported another favourite of mine - the Red Crayola. A friend once played me a Swell Maps album where they screamed out "Army ! Army !" again and again. Admittedly, the musical content was low but I thought they were great fun live and I agree with you about the INXS man who I didn't rate. I've already forgotten his name. >Coffee & Cream are two men on acoustic guitars. The man I recognised was also a minor TV celebrity over here (UK) a few years ago because he was the final presenter of the Rock show 'Old Grey Whistle Test' on BBC2.< Susan Even just told me his name - Mark Ellen. A TV and newpaper journalist (MoJo, Guardian). He currently presents a rock program called 'Backbeat' on satellite TV. FROST C.N wrote: On the performance given by the Dear Janes. Many people talked through their set although I was not one of them, honestly. Maybe they had an off-night and I only saw their last few songs, but another time I think they need to put in a stronger performance than last Thursday. I see it as a two-way contract between band and audience. The audience owe it to the band to listen without talking, but equally the onus is on the band to command the attention of the audience. We've all seen weak support acts. I was lucky enough to see him perform 3 or 4 years ago in Seattle, and he was delightful. A more charming, amiable performer, you are not likely to find, unless the performer is named Robyn Hitchcock. His music was more a tribute to his influences (Brian Wilson, Bacharach, among others) than they were original creations, but he'll be missed by me, at least. RE Storefront Hitchcock: Attention DC-area fegs. The Key movie theater is closing at the end of the year. Since the Biograph closed about 18 months ago, I have no idea what other artsy theaters will be left in the area that might show Storefront Hitchcock. Any ideas, or will I have to drive to New York? That's all that's on my mind for now. My next post is not due until Dec. 22nd. The Flower Theatre in Wheaton was bought and renovated a year ago with the intention of becoming a bohemian haven for independent and small-release films, plays, art and live music, but I don't know if it made it-- Also there is the Mansion (?) in Baltimore, which is going to show an experimental film made by a friend of mine. I don't know if these places could afford to show storefront, but I will ask them. I think the DC area fegs should go together.
