Hallo fellow fegs, I am Carol, a longtime LA lurker. I wanted to make my debut with something a bit more eloquent, but I cannot blink it more! I need info on the forthcoming Largo shows! For every time I call the place, i get: a) a busy signal b) a quiet, mumbly recording about being out of dinner reservations for Robyn and...John? c) an even quieter, mumblier recording saying that the other line is busy and that this machine does not take messages. In other words, i have been as yet unable to talk to a real person in the know of whether either of the shows are actually sold out (or just the dinner reservations), or if it is a 21+ venue. Any information on either of these would be most appreciated. Thank you! I will be unable to attend the Largo gig, but they've asked me to warm up the crowd over the telephone. At about 8:30pm tonight, they're going to drag a phone over to my computer terminal at the Post Office, and I've been asked to sing songs, tell jokes, etc. I plan on throwing in a bunch of taping references since I know some of you will be "equipped". "Hey, is that a D8 in your pants or are you just happy to see me??" Ba Dump Bump. ;-) No seriously, folks. Tape the show. And enjoy. I'll probably be listening to some other Robyn gig at work trying to connect with you guys through psychic channels. Speaking of feg gatherings, how was the Dan Bern gig?? Well, speaking only for my brother and myself, excellente! I have a sneaking suspicion that the others (Nick & Judith, Mark & Donne, Sydney, Nick's friend Paul, and two others to whom I was not properly introduced) would concur that it was one of the more unusual and entertaining shows ever. The fact that a man would strip down to his skivvies after the third song and play the rest of the show that way may give you all a clue as to the entertainment factor. Other highlights: He called an interviewer in Alaska and his mother in Ohio from the stage. We got to say hi! He implored us not to applaud, but instead shout "N-Guh!" after each song (and to continue doing so at every other show we attend in the future). As for the feg gathering part, Nick, Jason and I had lunch and brews at a great place called the Jupiter; we met up with Mark, Donne and Sydney at Amoeba Records (where we all spent more than we shoulda); we checked out a fetish store where I briefly considered some body piercings; we had our photos taken with Rasputin and Fat Dog; and had a pleasant dinner, followed by birthday cake (courtesy Sydney) after which we met up with the rest of the group and headed to the show. In short, it was a blast! An excellent way to celebrate a quadruple feg-birthday! (Happy B-Day again, Nick, Sydney and Donne!!!) Score of the day: In the bargain basement of Rasputin Records, I found the UK-release twelve-inch single of "Brenda's Iron Sledge", taken from _GLTHO_. On side one is "Brenda" and "O.T. Stones...". Side two has "The Pit Of Souls, Pts. I - IV". The kewylest thing about it, however, is the Robyn cartoon on the front. It's entitled, "Brenda's Iron Sledge" and each frame represents a different line from the song. If anyone would like me to scan the cover, let me know and I'll either email it to you, or post it on the WWW. Oh, BTW -- I paid only $3.95 for it :^) We need to plan something soon with even more fegs attending. Mark has a gig *NEXT* weekend (the 22nd, I think). We should try to plan something around that. Also, with John coming into my neck 'o' da' woodz, there is always the possibility of doing something up this-here way. I will volunteer to act as social director for any event [in which we may wish to participate in] ;-) If you wish to contact me with idears or suggestions, eme and I'll try to think of sumpin' kewyl to do. It was indeed an awesome gig! (and a memorable day) You Seattle fegs should definitely take up Cynthia's invitation to go see 'ol Dan when he's in town. Things to shout out, when you go: 1) "Take off your pants!" (he DID in Berkeley!) 2) "Call your mom!" (ditto!) 3) "N-GAH N-GAH!" (Dan said if enough people do this the others will feel embarassed into joining in!) > He called an interviewer in Alaska and his mother in Ohio from the > stage. We got to say hi! The absolute highlight! He stopped right in the middle of the performance explaining that he'd missed doing this interview because he decided to go swimming earlier (someone there told him it was his lucky day, which he decided to take to heart - another story) and took out a cell phone. The interview didn't last long - the interviewer's first quip was "I thought I was talking to Bob Dylan" (audience boos!). Then someone yelled "Call your mom" -- and HE DID. After he hung up, his comment to the audience: "I feel like David F#$%^@* Letterman."! Some of his between song banter was definitely headed in a Robynesque direction (in terms of surrealistic non-sequiterishness - nobody beats Robyn for stories) > As for the feg gathering part, ... it was a blast! I've said it before and I'll say it again: Fegs are *so* cool! The only dissapointment was that the contingent meeting up with us in the evening got stuck in horrendous traffic and missed dinner (and Sydney's fabulous cake!) and didn't get much of a chance to mingle. (We'd planned to go somewhere after the show, but Dan played a reeeaaally long set, so there wasn't time.) Re: Glen's score of the day: ... the "Brenda's Iron Sledge" cartoon I got the same cartoon as an insert in my copy of Black Snake Diamond Role. Anyone else? > We need to plan something soon with even more fegs attending. YES! If you'd be interested in hosting a gathering in your region/country let me know and I'd be happy to act as coordinator for the technology requirements to get everyone connected. I don't have DAT, but I *do* have Minidisc - the digital recording successor to cassette tape that works like a CD. My question is: are there any other fegs out there who have been turned on to MD yet? (the format is rapidly gaining momentum in the US) If so, I'd be happy to be a MD branch/leaf/twig or whatever. Even if I'm the sole technologically up-to-date feg -- & given that I can find a friend with a DAT to record/clone from -- I could still do digital(MD) to analog copies.
