Now that we've all agreed what exactly constitutes a "Bay Area Feg" I should like to extend the invitation one last time to any "Bay Area Fegs" -- or any other Fegs who happen to be in or near this particular corner of the Western United States to join our little "Feg Outing" to see Dan Bern this Thursday (Nov. 13th). Dan is playing at the Freight and Salvage Coffee House, 1111 Addison St., Berkeley at 8:00pm (general admission, doors open at 7:30. Check Bass for tickets). We're meeting beforehand at the "Santa Fe Bar and Grill" just a few blocks up University Ave. (#1310, at the RR tracks. Ph 841-4740). A table is booked from 5:30pm in the name "Mr. Feg" (fast becoming a tradition!) and we'll be leaving for the venue sometime after 6:45pm. If you'd like to come, but can't make it to restaurant, look out for us at the venue. Scan the Fegfotos page for me (Nick), Mark, Glen and Sydney - we'll be there with various other fegs and non-fegs -- wonderful warm human beings all. Don't be shy! Sorry no Feg paraphernalia, but Mark says he'll wear his upside-down duck T-shirt (as featured in the Amazing Spinning RotoMark). If you're new to Dan you can check out the "Fegmaniax" equivalent page at: http://www.eskimo.com/~wyiwndr/dan_bern.html The Fegfotos page is at http://home.earthlink.net/~njaz/fegfotos.html If you email me before I leave on Thursday morning I'll even send you a map. (Don't tell Sydney, but this whole thing is just a ruse so we can all stow away in the trunk of her car in order to get to Robyn's LA gig this weekend!) ~N ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Nov 1997 10:52:46 -0800 From: mrrunion@tng.net (Runion, Michael R.) "rock and roll > laboratory." Don't know the first one, but I like the idea...gets you that much closer to the old gatefold LPs. One of my faves is the rather lurid photo of the man and woman doing disgusting things with stuffed animals inside the R-rated version of Sonic Youth's "Dirty" album (1992). How about the weird little graphics they sometimes put in the center of the CD-clasp/hole thingy in those digipacs? What's with that? By the way, we've had a slew of additional fegs explode into small symmetrical red dots on the fegmaps in such chic locals as Elkmont, AL; Santa Barbara, CA; and Phoenix, AZ. The New Haven, CT; Houston, TX; and Manchester, UK regions have belched themselves from 5 pixel diameter dots to 8 pixel diameters. The scourge is spreading rapidly. States still in need of fegs: Georgia (c'mon!), South Carolina, Mississippi, West Virginia, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Delaware, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North & South Dakota, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Missouri, Louisiana, Arkansas, Hawaii, and Arizona. Mike Runion n.p. absolutely nothing. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Nov 1997 11:14:14 -0500 From: Keith Hanlon Subject: Re: chlkhlls people rambling(definitely no RH) >I just found "Carmen Sandiego Out Of This World", which features >XTC and They Might Be Giants. Lest you think we're ready to let this regional-challenge thing die peacefully, let me offer a competing "Seattle Area Feg" event on Thursday, November 20: That's when Dan Bern plays the lovely Tractor Tavern in downtown Ballard (swedes, pines, etc.). Music starts at 8:30, and there are two opening acts. Tickets are $8:00, at the door. I'll be there, along with my cohort, Chris (who was so impressed with the CD that he *stole* it from the stack by the stereo and secreted it to work with him). If you go, and if you recognize me from the photos on Nick's stellar ( http://home.earthlink.net/~njaz/bumbershoot.html ) say Hi! If you're interested in meeting up beforehand, let me know. Hattie's Hat would be a fine choice...especially now that we know they've got the Soft Boys on the juke box! We'll probably stop in there for a bite around 7:30. (No reservations there, so if you ask for Mr. Feg, you'll get an even stranger look than usual.) I've had Dan Bern lyrics running through my head, totally at random, all morning. It's kinda cool. Hey all I've started work on a nice little Soft Boys graphical discography (and maybe a little more) web site, and need 2 things. If anyone has either, and has access to a scanner, it would be appreciated!! 1. He's a Reptile - the sleeve that has the Reptile-headed guy alone (not the one with the Reptile-headed guy and the "foxy chick") 2. Underwater Moonlight - German version on Roof records - the one that has the black and white cover. I'd like to get both sides of each scanned, but I'll take anything I can get! Anyone have any suggestions on what else you would like to see on the site? Anyone have any interesting articles/quotes/photos that are yearning to be included? thanks clint ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Nov 1997 17:47:44 -0500 (EST) From: Bayard Subject: Robynbase- last call for initial input None of y'all have commented on my initial structure, which i assume means either: 1) It's perfect 2) It's hopeless 3) You're really busy with real life stuff If you haven't looked at the tables and relationships yet, and you have MS ACCESS 97, logon to access.gov via FTP and log on as TEMP with password FEGMAN. The database is in directory RB1 and is called DB1.MDB. For a limited time only, you can get scans of RH's CD's too! Let me know if you have any ideas for the database, I'm raring to go. I am going to incorporate recording sessions data (I think this will be a separate table that will link to the songs table.) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Nov 1997 10:31:36 -0600 From: Gary Parker Subject: help for sleep deprivation dear fegs, I need your help. The euphoria of having a new child is beginning to wear off and sleep deprivation is taking hold. What I need are lullabies! As soon as I get the hi-fi back together, lullaby tapes are my first project. I think number one will be an all RH (& Egyptian/Softboys) compilation. Send me your suggestions. When I get it all together I'll be glad to offer it to the list. I'll also be glad to hear other suggestions for sleepy-time tunes. nodding off, Gary ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Nov 1997 04:06:11 GMT From: dwdudic@erols.com (David W. Dudich) Subject: Andy type bassist wanted Hey everybody, I gotta a little request for some of you. this is luther w dudich. I have been on the feg list for a while. I am also on the globe of fegs map. As there are quite few musicians on this list, I was wondering if there are any the Baltimore/ Washington area that would be willing to jam. I have a band called 'number nine line.' I play a blue tele (big surprise for a Robyn fan!!), hammond organ, harp, and write songs. (I also sing a bit, but I have a very low Richard Thompson-ish voice, which I don't feel comfortable with as a lead vocal.) Our drummer also sings, and my twin brother is an incredible guitarist and all around writer of music. Unfortunately, our bassist had to quit to concentrate on school (no hard feelings at all- in fact, my brother and him are hatching a plot to take 'Star Wars' and dub in dialogue from 'pulp fiction' (believe it or not, it works!!!)) so, we are looking for a new bassist. we are all 23-24. We practice in Laurel. If you are a decent bassist who plays a bit like Andy from the Egyptians, is open to other influences (especially 'world-beat' stuff like soukous, Skatalites, and - especially- the afrobeat of the late, great Fela Anikulapo Kuti) (also Richard Thompson and the Velvet Underground) , can learn songs and come up with compelling bass parts relatively quickly, is relatively responsible (please, no slackers, no druggies, no neo-hippies, no "whatever, mans!", "It's Allgood, mans!"), and has his or her own bass rig and transport (we practice out in the boonies, actually), please email me at=20 dwdudic@erols.com . thank you!! -luther w dudich ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Nov 1997 00:17:10 -0500 (EST) From: SydneyC33@aol.com Subject: the few, the brave, the committed Nick plots: << (Don't tell Sydney, but this whole thing is just a ruse so we can all stow away in the trunk of her car in order to get to Robyn's LA gig this weekend!) >> Wow!
