'round about 3:30 pacific. that was me, reacting to the huskies having given up a 30 yeard touchdown pass on 3rd and 20, to lose to oregon. i honestly think that's the loudest i've ever exclaimed the word, "fuck." or any word, for that matter. this was of course followed by glen and me cinching up our nooses. yoy, i think i'm gonna need a specialist to get me through this one. this one is EXCRUCIATING. was there more than just this gratuitous melancholia? only this: i beg of you woj and all, please don't hold me responsible for any depression-induced hyde-like words and deeds during the next several days. although i think the quail is still the only one among is with the power to knock out the server for forty days and forty nights. so don't worry too much about *that* happening again. gandalf said something like (sorry, i deleted it, so this won't be an *exact* quote): yes, i know: capuchie told me. that was TOTALLY cool of y'all! sorry if it came across that i was bitter or unappreciative. that was not EVEN what i was trying to imply. i've said it before: all of you are just fegtastic in my book! absolutely the most wonderful people. oh and bayard, dole would've been the "lesser evil," in my opinion. clinton's has been the most conservative presidency in a long, long time. ask any ceo: he'll tell you the same thing, gleefully. <...Of course, the original message was contesting the notion of Chicago as second best. yet, it imports Fegs as well. But, this is a rough go at it because the whole Bumbershoot imported to a heavy degree, perhaps beyond compare. So, "where" does that leave us? Over to you, .chris> way cool history lesson. but what *you* forget, .chris, is that i'm a socialist. i don't want to claim dominion over anybody, especially in the ways you're implying. moreover, in many ways i can't fucking stand seattle. that's why i called it the "cascadia" region rather than the "puget sound' region, and why i added the caveat that it all presumed that the oregon and bc fegs wouldn't mind being grouped with us. hell, oregon turned out 5 --or, where's chuck from? coulda been 6-- fegs to bumbershoot, and seattle only had four, right? and it wasn't just bumbershoot. we've been to lotsa shows down there, and vice versa. renee, you said you've been to every northwest show in the last ten years, right? the "real life" connection between the three burgs may not be that great. but the robyn connection is pretty solid. and most importantly, we're all friends. ok, maybe we don't get together for lunch every thursday and play ring-around-the-cones like we ought to. but give it time. and i should think it's the same in the bay. the sacto-reno fegs willingly identify yourselves as bay area fegs, right? .chris, you don't feel like glen lords it over you just a little too much, do you? anton, you don't mutter to yourself that that lousy good-for-nothing gloster thinks he's such a big shot because he's in heavy-duty rotation on every radio station in the land, do you? mark, you don't feel tom's using his position as an actual apple employee to exploit you, do you? syd, you don't organize bay area listening projects and attend weekly lunches under duress, do you? of course not. at least, i assume it's, "of course not." you're all friends. screw the real world. in the globe of fegs, there is no fegImperialism, so far as i can detect. so it was as much as anything hoping the oregon and bc fegs would think we were cool enough to hang out with them. and it wasn't so much a matter of which region is the "best," as, "hey, don't forget us over here. berkeley isn't the only hotbed of robynism." which, granted, isn't exactly the type of thing a so-called anarchist should be worrying about. but we've all got our weaknesses. i've had Live And Let Die in my head all weekend. happy now? well, at least it's been the guns 'n' roses rendition. i read a review of USE YOUR ILLUSION once that said that song just sounded like wings on steroids. Why are the Rolling Stones still famous? Why is their greatest hits tour doing so much better than that of The Monkees, The Beach Boys, The Moody Blues or The Kinks (when they were touring) I mean, they all have high song recognition, a large body of hits during the 60s, a few hits during the 70s and 80s and a setlist that's 80% oldies. Why is one doing so much better than the others? (Boy, I wish that The Hollies or The Turtles or The Zombies were touring this area) (Why I keep doing this: 1) Because I want to be a popular musician. The 60s has easier-to-study trends than the 70s or 80s, and I don't even want to get started on The Spice Girls) 2) To air my disgust about how Love and Harry Nilsson are unheard of by my contemporaries, yet they all own albums by the Dead and The beatles..) Hey everybody, My name's Ben, and I'm a college student who recently subscribed to the List. Robyn and crew were introduced to me by a few friendly folk on Chalkhills, the XTC list, and my first purchase ("Element of Light") has become one of my favourite albums of all time. Since then, I've bought "Eye," "Moss Elixir," "Groovy Decoy," "Greatest Hits" (another A&M crap-off), "Respect," "Gotta Let...," and "Uncorrected Personality Traits." Here's my question: what else should I get? There's such a massive catalog, I'm unsure of where to go next. Any input would be appreciated.
